I am reorganising my workouts and wondering if a workout can be removed from the list without deleting the workout file. It appears that importing a workout file adds it into trainBD but deleting a workout from the list removes it from trainDB and deletes the file.
I have a library of workouts and don't necessarily want to delete a workout when I remove it from the Train view.
My workaround at the moment is to rename the file in the libray before removing it from the list in Train view.

That's right: when you import a workout or videosync file it is copied to workouts and videosync library, and it is removed on delete. The original file is unaffected.

I have found that when I remove(delete) the workout in the train view that the original workout ERG file is also deleted, so unless I remember to take a copy and update the copy every time I edit the workout then the workout will be lost.

Which is your configured "Workout and VideoSync Library" setting in Options > Training > Preferences?

And the folder from which you imported that workout file?

Thanks Ale, I would say your question pretty much answers this issue and corrects my understanding of how GC workout import functions. Correct me if I am wrong with the below.

Workouts can be imported in the GC train view with "Import Workout from file" which copies the workout file to the folder set in "Workout and VideoSync Library" setting in Options > Training > Preferences and adds the workout into the workout list of train view.
If you edit the copy in "Workout and VideoSync Library" the changes are automatically updated in GC by changing to a different workout in GC and back again.
If you edit the original file that you selected to import these changes will not be updated in GC automatically.
If you try to import the original file again you receive the error below.

To re-import the original file (that you may have edited) you must first delete the file from the workouts list and then re-import it.
You will always have 2 copies of the workout file on your PC, the one initially downloaded/created and the one copied into the folder set for "Workout and VideoSync Library" unless you download/create the workout in the "Workout and VideoSync Library", in which case it will be deleted when removed from the Workout list in GC.

This warning is misleading, I will fix it.

In current master the warning when the file (workout or videosync) cannot be copied to the workout library due to there's one with the same name already present is different from the one when the copy fails for other reasons, it should help to avoid confusions.

OTOH, the previous comments are basically the difference between making a copy of the file (what happens when you import a workout or videosync file from a different folder than Workout Library) or just referencing it (when the file is imported from the Workout Library folder or scan -instead of import- is used).

I think a "Good practices handling Workouts, Media and VideoSyncs" would be a nice addition to the wiki.
