I am just wondering how to change the text background on the page as per
the screenshot because even though there appears to be no text, there is
in fact text that is black with the background being only a little bit
lighter so as to hide the text and I am finding it difficult to pin down
just how and where to fix the problem with the version currently being
used as per the second screenshot and any pointers to fix the problem
would be much appreciated.

Hi Robert, the likely cause is your system using dark mode systemwide with GoldenCheetah using a light theme, see https://github.com/GoldenCheetah/GoldenCheetah/wiki/UG_Preferences_Appearance and try changing them to match.
