I'm a new user.

OS =  Windows 7 Pro, 64 bit, Version 6.1, Build 7601, SP1.
Hardware:  HP Zbook 14 mobile workstation (1st gen),  Intel i5-4300, 16GB memory.

Before GC install, I made a disc image of C drive,   "just in case" ;-)

Downloaded  & installed:  GoldenCheetah_v3.4_64bit_Windows.exe

GC installed successfully.
During install, I recall some additional Microsoft software wanted to install, I allowed it, and it also seemed to install successfully.

Re-booted PC  (I tend to do that after any major software install).

Upon very first launch of GC,  got a pop-up window with "Failed to Load R Library"  error.

When I close the error window, and relaunch GC, no more "Failed to Load R Library"  error,   and the "Choose an Athlete" window pops up.   I entered my personal data, imported about 880  *.WKO files, and stopped.

No.

We support developing charts using R (the statistical programming language), but you don't need it for normal things.
Once you get into GC and start to want to do some fancy things (modeling, machine learning, new visualisations) then perhaps you will explore it (perhaps). For now you don't need to worry.

If you're curious, there is a wiki article on it here, with a video tutorial:

Welcome to GC :)

Mark - Thank you for the very fast response!

On to the GC learning curve!  ;-)
