Hi guys,

Thank you for the fantastic software that Golden Cheetah is. I've been intensively using it this year and already learned so much about cycling and fitness.

I've see on a video that you could create segments on GC. Is there a way to create a segment on GC from a Strava segment?

I also remember seeing somewhere that I could see all the activities that I had done that went past a created segment, but no longer remember how to do that nor where the video is. Any directions?

Cheers,

Alex Vilela

Hi

First you have to select the segment yourself. If you want to replicate a strava segment, it's probably easiest to select the segment by dragging your mouse pointer over the map of your ride.

Your selected segment will be added to the ride intervals in the left sidebar. Right-clicking allows you to edit the exact start- and endpoint.

Once you are satisfied with the selection, you can create a route segment. Your route segment will be shown in the left sidebar as well once it's created.

Dragging the segment to the bottom of a chart will allow to compare all the times you have passed this segment.

Kind regards,

Nigel

Looking thru the API it looks like Strava are quite open, its changed a lot since I last looked !
I wonder if we should improve the Strava integration to allow sync.

That's exactly what I was looking for, thank you.
Extra kudos for the right-click editing before creating the segment, that helps a lot.
Dragging the mouse over a map wasn't working because the segment is a closed loop that I had ridden in both directions, so I always ended up with the wrong thing.

Integrating through an API with Strava would be super cool.

You can manually create the segment as Nigel pointed out, or if it is a starred segment in your Strava, and you are using a Garmin (and probably other computers) it will include the segment in the fit file and will label it as a lap in your GC, and all you have to do is right click that and make it a segment in GC.  It's a bit clunky, but it is another way you can do it for now and get an identical segment in GC (or probably pretty close).

That would work too, thank you Will. Though I need a new Garmin that supports Strava segments now... :-)

I'd be a big fan. Not just segments though - if we could pull files, that would be great! There is currently a little hack where you just add '/export_tcx' to the end of the acticity address, and it will download the file. For example, if your activity URL is www.strava.com/activities/12345
Add the extension www.strava.com/activities/12345/export_tcx and hit enter.

Don't know if that little hack could be used to get a clean list to select particular files though.

The exported files from Strava aren't original data, as I recall -- it loses things like L/R pedal balance and pedaling metrics from Garmin Vector, for example.  It's always better to have the original file and put it directly into GC if you want data integrity, in my opinion.
