I added some new data fields under preferences and reordered some of them.  Ever since then, whenever I import a ride (whether from today's plan, strava or by directly importing a ride file) it doesn't import the workout title anymore.

Any guidance?

I am currently using Version RC2X build 3982.  However, this first started happening in version 3.4.

Likely you have removed or changed the Workout Title field, if you delete athlete’s config/metadata.xml when GC is closed it will be recreated with default values on the next start, your changes will be lost so you could previously copy that file and compare afterwards.

Thanks.  I checked the xml file and The workout title field is there. You can see in the attached. I tried creating a new user and imported a FIT file and same thing - no title import.

The FIT file importer never set Workout Title field, in fact, there is no text field in FIT files which could be used for that purpose, AFAIK.

IIRC Workout Title was introduced for Training Peaks sync, which is deprecated now, and it get values when importing PWX files.

Ok. That makes sense and clearly shows why testing it with FIT file import is not a valid test.

The way I get all my data into GC is actually through integrated accounts via Strava import and Today's Plan import. This used to bring in the workout title, but it no longer does which is the core issue I have.

For Strava sync you can configure which field is used for activity name, see Share > Accounts > Activities > Strava

Why not preset Workout Title field to the (imported) file name ?

Most of us probably chose file names made of date/time + activity/performance title. So this default might make sense.

Likely because Workout Title was introduced just for compatibility with TP/WKO download and import, and the source filename is not generally useful for this purpose.

Most of us probably chose file names made of date/time + activity/performance title. So this default might make sense.

Filename and Source Filename are metadata fields populated by import on any format, you can see the in the Extra tab, if you want to see them in the Workout tab and use them in filters just add it to metadata fields.
