As we head into winter, is GC making any provision to track, monitor,
and assess running and weight lifting training like it currently does
for cycling?

I currently use it to track all sorts of "endurance" -type sports:
running, swimming, hiking, etc. I dont bother trying to input strength
training since the "time-distance-heart rate" type metrics are fairly
useless. In the absence of power data, i just use HR to estimate
training stress. This allows me to track time, training stress and
mileage (albeit a combined mileage .. my 1000m swim kinda brings down
my average weekly speed).

Basically there is nothing keeping you from using GC to store
non-cycling workouts - it just doesnt do a good job at breaking up
stats by sport. It would be nice, for example, to see a critical power
curve for my running pace!

What other non-cycling fitness tracking graphs/stats did you have in mind?

I just got some withings scales which are wifi web enabled and have an
API. Since I am too lazy to write a spreadsheet and type in my weight
every week.

I am looking at recording 'body measurements' (chuckle) so I can plot
them (titter) on the metric plots.

I have never really gotten the whole weight training thing - what do
you need to record and what do you then do with the data?

Will post a patch,
Mark

Well, if anyone is so motivated, Skiba's swimscore is linked to this
on-line calculator:
http://jibbering.com/sports/swimscore.html

And his run score (GOVSS) here:

I did my own little fit to the data here (avoiding odd powers):

But for practical grades, the GOVSS formula is fine.

I'm thinking along the lines of GOVSS for running (from RaceDay) or
what's used by WKO+ for their running and weight training. Are there
plans for these types of implementations within GC?

I don't think there are any plans.

The simplest approach would be to use the manual entry for these
workouts, then include routines to calculate the X-score using Skiba's
formula. There's already code to estimate the parameters for rides
based on speed and distance. (that code is calibrated to rides for
which power data is available: fairly slick).

A more complicated approach would be to allow GPS data to be used for
these workouts.

But AFAIK there is no champion yet for these efforts.

I'm not sure I understand what you are saying. I use GC daily to
record my PT data from my bike rides. I'm wanting comparable
performance data and graphs when I transition off the bike to running
this coming winter.

Mobile Logger will record your route with an iPhone GPS and exports to the GC file format. This might help for running - no HR or power though.
I'm sure that there are ways to get other apps which do similar stuff to export their files somehow.

Have you tried Dr Skiba's Raceday?

Not yet. I'm trying to to avoid this option IF GC can implement
similar non-bike provisions.
