Hi,
I've been trying to plan a taper by inputting future workout TSS scores manually to see how they would affect my TSB in the weeks before a race.  However I can't seem to set the PMC chart so I can see a future trend line.  Am I missing something?  Thanks

Not sure i u derstand exactly but try this to see if it does ehat you looking for. Create a season with the end date you want to project to. If you select that season while viewing pmc it shows the run-off of stress scores into the future until the end of the season.

Also be sure to select current selection instead of current selection thru today as date range in basic settings for th pmc chart

Or in the chart settings select a manual from/to date range. I always do this anyway as I like to see about a month ahead clear with CTL & TSB taperering off.

Hi Aaron,

I'm guessing you are new to GC.
You should scan through the FAQ, it will save you a bit of time

I'm also new to GC. I read the FAQ but I I'm still not knowledgable enough to grok the terminology. Even on re-read its not clear what is meant.

So I am very thankful that Aaron asked that question!

I'm sorry to generate more noise here. I've searched for what I'm suggesting and I guess I don't know the terms to find stuff. The good news is that I can code, so maybe I can help. So here goes:

UI Critiques:

#1 That tiny little 'more' in the upper left is pretty difficult to stumble across. It is small and disappears unless you happen to hover the mouse. And then after clicking 'more' I need to click "All Chart Settings". Of the six date range radio buttons only choice 4 (the fully manual range) lets you include the future. I think it'd be better to have such an amazing feature be controlled with a first class UI element. A drop down to let you pick how far into the future you'd like to see, or maybe a way to drag the sliders at the bottom into the future?

#2 Would be nice if graph lines of the future were delineated somehow. Maybe make them dashed? Or a bit ghosted?

Planning with Trends\PMC window:

Right now its time consuming to invent and iterate workouts to try and peak for a race. At least I can only do it by manually entering workouts in the future but no reason so much clicky clicking should be needed. Honestly before trying to plan for months manually entering workouts I'd try to model it in a spreadsheet first so I could iterate on lots of workouts with cut/paste.

#1 Might be useful to have a bit/checkbox on activities that indicates "speculative", just to keep dreams separate from reality.

#2 Would be great to have a way to easily add/adjust speculative workouts from within the pmc ui.

#3 I bet there's an algorithmic search that could find a pretty damn good set of workouts (in terms of tss? aerobic/anaerobic splits?) to let you peak CTS Balance for a race. Could give it a lower bound on CTS Balance (how negative can I tolerate?) and let it rip. With such "auto-planning" as time passes and you record actual workouts the estimated "best future workout stress" would adapt. A daily glide path to a certain race. Speculative activities #2 would be treated as real for purposes of planning, so if you have a minor race or fun ride planned the search will schedule around it. Also can add a speculative rest workout to be able to blank out certain days for those pesky vacation things.

The forward planning aspects of your post are planned for v4.0

Would recommend reading the science section on the GoldenCheetah website to get some of the 'technical' terminology.
Would also recommend watching a tutorial since they explain terrms in context, there are a few on the website.

Cheers,
