Hi, is it possible to take in power and cadence, and calculate pedal force and torque in real time in GC and then display as a live trace on the training page? I cant find this in the current software, and my power meter doesnt output this data, but assume it would be possible to do this in code. Thanks

Yes, it is possible to compute derived realtime data for display and plot in Train, regrettably there is no user level API to do it so it should be implemented at the source code level.

Okay, probably a bit more of a time commitment then I can afford just now, but maybe later. Is there a document that describes how to setup the development environment and do test compiles?

I would start adding the field to DialWindow, it is easier and likely more useful than to plot it.
The INSTALL-* files at the root of the repository explain how to build from source, there is a Developers Guide which may help too: https://github.com/GoldenCheetah/GoldenCheetah/wiki/Developers-guide
