Can't edit out non working Media video reference in Media pane

On this illustration/pic showing data choices for videos imported, some do not show the "remove reference" choice I have in red in pic. These which do not show "remove reference" are not working, wanna clean it up.  Looked in video.mxl and edited some path issues to no avail.
