I read a blurb in the release notes and a little bit of detail here on
the list.

Would this work across platforms?

I believe that if you put your rider library next to the application on the memory stick then it will switch to "Portable" mode.

Maybe the folks who actually coded that up could confirm.

Anyway, it was designed to work for all three platforms...eg. put Linux, Mac and Windows versions together on a stick with your ride library and be able to look at your data on any computer.

   Definitely under Mac and Linux.

Not sure under windows. But it would be an easy test. When you run the installer, point to your USB stick. Then give it a try.

   Correct:

//this is the path within the current directory where GC will look for
//files to allow USB stick support
QString localLibraryPath="Library/GoldenCheetah";

So if there is a Library/GoldenCheetah right next to your executable, it will go lookin in there for your ride files.

The only part I'm not sure of is Window and how the libraries are handled on a USB stick.

Ok, I get it now...

On XP, I installed to
<USB>/GoldenCheetah/
Then to get it to launch in "Portable" Mode I created,
<USB>/GoldenCheetah/Library/GoldenCheetah/...

It opens as a fresh install with no athletes, so just copy rider data
file..

<USB>/GoldenCheetah/Library/GoldenCheetah/<rider>
and relaunch.

Very cool!

Will try with linux and OS X later today...
