Ok I am running latest  development build of GC v3  on OSX Lion and want to run my Computrainer using ant+ cadence and HR sensors via Garmin USB1 ant+ stick.  In training mode I can select workout library /  devices / ant+usb1 and get the HR to show on GC or if I select keyspan1 I can get the CT to work.  When I select both using the apple command key I can only get one or the other to be received by GC never both.  Any ideas?

I attached two screen shots that are .png if I need to make them .pdf please let me know.

You can't.

Sorry.

I want to add that feature, but it needs thought about how you configure / select which source for each data series.

Indeed, I pushed a patch last week to make the device a single selection, since I originally intended to allow multiple sources, but its gonna have to wait till the rest of the realtime config is sorted out.

Will get there eventually .. and I can say that with certainty: I have SRMs on a CT and want to get power from my cranks coz I'm too lazy to get all precise when calibrating the CT :)

You /might/ be interested to know that I just pushed an update to support spinscan on CTs. Hopefully it'll make it into the next development builds soon.

Hey thats fine I just didn't want to be the last one using the wires.  Never had a HR monitor (ear clip) that worked consistently  with the CT, and wanted to skip the other CT solutions and try ant+, well anyway maybe I will order the CT wireless with a receiver that plugs in the back of the head unit for now.  Good luck.  Is it true that you can not have accurate  spinscan information using ant+ and therefore will have to be a wired cadence sensor?

Yes, SpinScan needs the wired cadence sensor to know when the crank has rotated.

No use for you Ty, but you can achieve what you want on Windows using
ctAnt+ (http://www.ct-ant.com/). I'm using it to supply HR and cadence
to GC and it works well. Note though that cadence via ant+ is not
accurate enough to support spinscan - you need the CT cadence sensor
for that.

Actually, it's not about accuracy, it's about the fact the head unit on the CT uses the signal from its own cadence sensor to know when a full crank revolution has occurred.

Since ctANT does not provide the cadence to the head unit (it inserts cadence data at the PC end via a virtual com port). It would never be possible to use an ANT+ cadence sensor with spinscan (unless you provided a signal into the wired head unit).

But then, spinscan and pedal stroke analysis in general has been widely debated and judged to be of limited utility.

Just a word on ct-Ant+, I for one have nothing but issues using ctAnt.
Intermittinglly windows pops up to say ctAnt has stopped working. Its
seems more stable using ErgVideos but still crashes at some point.
I could never get it to work alongside 3d software, video just slows,
playback just stutters along till I get that dreaded window.
Dimension 8300, so maybe because my system is old?

I did have a problem with ctAnt on a 7 year old laptop with the CT
Coaching Software. The CT software was hogging all the cpu from what I
could tell. Raising the priority of the ctAnt process solved the
problem.

On a 4 year old desktop it works for me out-of-the-box.

actually good information.  bought a new laptop and have been too lazy to install bootcamp or a VM to consider another option.  Plus then Mark L wouldn't have something else to work on.  But seriously, wires or no wires, what is the best way to get heart rate data on the CT running GC?

Just use the CT heart rate pod and a strap? I've never had issues with it myself.

But the cadence sensor.. man that is another world of pain. The design is just wrong and it gets snarled up etc. I've lost count of the the number of times I've snapped off the magnet or boshed the sensor.

I'm struggling to get this working. CtAnt and GC. Well anything and GC
so i suspect I am missing something.

CTAnt is "broadcasting" on com19
I add a CT in GC on com19

I go to Tools->Options->Devices
Select Computrainer from Device Type. Enter "CT" as Device Name. Enter
"com19" as the Device Port and hit ADD. i save.

I then go into Train view, Go to Workout library, select an erg and CT
as the device and hit the play button. The counter starts but no
readings from device registered nor load instructions transmitted to
the CT.

What have I missed?

I've got ctANT+ working with GC3 on my WinXP system. The key thing,
for me anyway, is launch order. This is what works for me:

1. Launch ctANT+
2. Activate ctANT+ and wait for your various devices to pair and show
as Paired. At this point, the Computrainer should show as "Unit
Connected" and "Awaiting Data".
3. Launch GC3, navigate to the Train page and select your Computrainer
and .erg file.
4. Hit "Play". At that point, the CT status in ctANT+ should change
from "Awaiting Data" to "Feeding Data".

The critical part is having ctANT+ running and active *before*
launching GC3.

Hope this helps.

I have just pushed an update to allow workouts with multiple devices. I tested with a robot providing hr, computrainer providing load and power and my ANT+ cadence/speed from a Garmin GSC-10.

Enjoy!

Wow thanks, I look forward to giving it a try, right after I recover from this team ride that was supposed to be at winter pace!

When multiple devices are selected a popup should appear to let you choose which data is collected from which device. Make sure you clicked allow multiple devices in train view.

Looks like this:

Use the combo box to choose which device to get telemetry from.

Cheers,
Mark

Hi,

I have been trying to get the GC3 Live Training view to work with both a computrainer (power) and a garmin ant+ stick (heart rate).  It seems which ever is at the top of the device setup screen is the only one that is recognized.  When I select multi device it will have either "computrainer" and none or "ant" and none as the options.

I have tried restarting, re-adding the devices in different orders and re-plugging the devices.

I am using Windows 7 and the build based on commit: e68705c4dd

From Mark's post above it sounds like this should work however is it just cadence / speed that can be taken from ant+ in parallel to using the computrainer?

Thanks very much.

Thanks.  I do get the popup but it either has only the computrainer and none or it has ant and none.
I haven't been able to find a way to have both devices show up at the same time?

You need to highlight more than one device on the left? You need to ensure allow multiple devices in train view is clicked in tools options devices.

aaah,  so simple and I missed it!
Thanks very much that works!  Now I only need to where one heart rate strap :-)

Make sure you added a computrainer device in options and selected it on the left side in train view?

Hi Mark,

Everything worked for me in this example except for the power dropdown box.
It only gave me the none or HR/Cadence options with out the conputrainer choice you had in
your pic. Any Idea on why I'm not seeing the computrainer choice if I followed your instructions?

Thanks,
Steve

Hi Mark Success!

All windows worked!
on thing I did notice is that when paring ANT+ devices (HR and Speed/Cadence) and a Computrainer
you need to choose each option correctly.  I've added an example graphic for people who may have the same
configuration as I do:

I needed to select HR and cadence for the ANT + devices and then select power and speed in the Computrainer entry dialog box.
When I did this your multi-device dialog box came up. I was then able to select all devices as you described!

Thanks Again for all your efforts!

Steve
