Metric that uses either TSS or hrTSS(?) when power meter data is available

Hey everyone,

So basically I'm struggling to create a PMC-chart with TSS coming from heart rate meter when there is no power meter on a ride. Due to family commitments I usually try to do some intervals on my way home on a commuter bike with no power meter. I have understood that TRIMP is used for this and TRIMP has some metrics you can use. I have been fiddling with it in GC but have not managed to understand how to make a metric (formula?) that uses TSS when power meter data is available otherwise hrTSS or whichever metric translates to TSS calculated from power meter data.

I know this subject has been up before and I have been trying to find a solution but seeing as I can't get it to work I figured I'd ask here.

Both Training Peaks, Today's Plan and Strava/Stravistix can calculate your TSS based on your heart rate when a power meter is missing. I have Strava but have for the last year used GC to analyze my training and would like to stick to it as long as I can solve this.

Has anyone managed to do this and if so could explain the process of setting it up in GC?

Here's my customized PMC-chart I use (sad chart - no fun to be sick/injured :) ):

Many thanks!
Br,
Karl

Hi Karl, you can define a simple custom metric (Options/Preferences > Metrics > Custom) like this:

Once saved it will be computed automatically for all your activities and you can use it to replace TSS as the base metric in your chart.
Additionally you could fine-tune the Trimp-k coefficients in HR Zones to match those of hrTSS if you like, search the forum for details since this has been discussed before.

Excellent! Worked straight away. Will take a look at the trimp-k coefficients at some point. Thanks for helping me out so fast. Very appreciated.

Thx for great info.
Any idea about creating a My_TSS based stress balance? Could not figure out the formula of the balance type metrics.

The corresponding formula is sb(My_TSS)

The Stress curve is computed for each day, the formula for each activity.

The best setting for trimp-k is:

1 - 0.50
2 - 0.92
3 - 1.17
4 - 1.33
5 - 2.00

How about 6 HR Zones?

Thx again, flexibility of GC is very impressive...

"The Stress curve is computed for each day, the formula for each activity."

Is this the reason why My_TSB (red) does not follow Coggan (yellow) and TRIMP (green) stress balance on rest days in this chart?
