Hi Folks,
I'm trying to import my ride data from TP without success.
There are 2 options when exporting ride data from TP: Workout file data in GZIP format and a Workout Summary in CSV format. Neither of these file types will import into GC. The GZIP file data continues to append the .gz file association even when extracted i.e. files are all *.tcx.gz and *.fit.gz. Manually changing the file name doesn't work and I've tried to unzip the folder with WinZip and 2 other programmes!
The CSV file import attempt to GC gives an "insufficient valid data in file error".

Anyone got a solution?

PS: I have a premium TP account but I understand the 'sync with TP option' is no longer supported.

Thanks,
Phil.

Hey Phil,

Gz is a gzip (compressed) file. You'll need to decompress/unzip it first before importing to GC. Google unzipping gzip files for your operating system.

You can use Strava as an intermediary between TrainingPeaks and GoldenCheetah.

I exported a.csv file from Training Peaks too.

If I import it to GC it gives me an "insufficient valid data in file error"

I'm using DEV V3.5 1710 on a Mac.

What could be the problem?

Can anyone help me?

Thanks

Martin

Unfortunately, TrainingPeaks deactivated third-party softeare access to its API, so Golden Cheetah can not download activities from TrainingPeaks even for those who pay premium access.
The best way is to download the activity. TP generates a compressed file in gzip format, it decompresses and leaves us a .fit file. We proceed in GC to import the activity from file and we have all the data of the original activity of TP.
I prefer to avoid files in CSV format.

If you add trainingpeaks as a web chart in 3.5 when you download the file it automatically opens the import dialog.

I should add that if you export the data using their export tool the importer doesn't support expanding the zip file -- this will be fixed as part of the deprecation of TrainingPeaks in GC -- which will (and must) be completed before we release 3.5 this Summer.

@franklin: I don't want to use .fit file as a export from TP because I want to have the comments, fill in TSS in GC. That's the reason I would like to import a .csv

@mark: I downloaded the web chart and the downloaded one file. All worked as you described. But as I mention I would like to have comments and manually filled in TSS from TP too. Is this possible?

Importing the .csv still gives me the error.

I'm doing still a mistake anywhere?

Thank you for your help

There are very few formats that support metadata outside of our JSON format.
PWX and WKO have a limited set of fields you can use.

The TP export is generally the same format as you would have imported, if you added comments in TP then they're not gonna be exported in any of the supported formats.
I don't think it's by design on their part, just unfortunate.
