In the 'setup virtual power' window it is suggested to use speed OR rpm to calculate virtual power.  But I can see only the option of using kph (speed)! How do I switch over to cadence (rpm) ? I'm using a Rogue bike with a cadence sensor which we can convert to virtual power.  If this is documented somewhere, please point me to it, many thanks.

Currently only one predefined trainer uses wheel rpm for virtual power: https://github.com/GoldenCheetah/GoldenCheetah/blob/93d0ac113af41be2853121d46efafb86398bc02b/src/Train/RealtimeController.cpp#L208

All remaining builtins and custom virtual curves use wheel speed.

I use a low cost Magene S3+ cadence/speed sensor that works with GC. With fixed gearing if the sensor is fixed to the pedal crank it can also send a speed signal to GC by setting an appropriate wheel diameter.
Just a note that this sensor does not update rapidly, there must be some internal averaging and the update is around once every second, sometimes slower with rapid cadence changes.

Thank your for the answers folks.
Regarding the Magene S3+, looks like it is able to provide speed info no matter if mounted on the crank or on the wheel axis. Then I'd just need to convert speed into power in GC.....
