I'm a n00b to Linux and fairly new to GC.  I just put a fresh 16.04 ubuntu os an old computer, and am trying to use my computrainer and my garmin to put all of my activities in one system.  Currently i'm struggling with what I assume are rights issues with both devices.  When I put the Garmin 520 on a usb cord into my machine, it doesn't appear in Files to import workouts to GC.  I assume its a rights issue.  I also am unable to get my GC to recognize my computrainer when I am in training mode.

Any help would be appreciated.  I've scoured the forums, and have tried several things but haven't come up with anything.  I assume you all will help me out after you roll your eyes at my level of novice.

Heres some info that I think you will need to help me out.

I'm not a developer and probably not more familiar with Linux than you are.  Your question sounds to me like you're expecting the device to auto-load into GC?

When I plug in my Garmin 520, I get a window (eventually) asking if I want to open this device in file manager.  This is the Linux process of mounting a mass storage device.  Once I've got that file manager window open, I can select Activty-Import from file  and load the data from the Garmin.  The Garmin is simply going to show up as a mass storage device.

I used to have a PowerTap head unit - the old yellow one.  GC used Activity-Download from device   to read that data.

In my experience, GC never reads something if you just plug it in.  You have to load thru the activity pull-down menu.
