Hi,

First of all thanks to the GC team for this incredible looking piece of (freeware) software.

Onfortunately, I can't seem to get it to work.
I have a Tacx T2180 vortex trainer and tacx T2990 ant+ .

Installation of GC and drivers is flawless.

When make a new athlete and try to initiate a training, it just does 'nothing'.

I imported a gpx file and 'made' a training out of it.
Then, I select the 'train' tab and on the left side I can select 'training.crs'. However, it just show a slope profile. I can't press any other button (eg. start button or play button).

The same goes for rlv files. I have a Mont ventoux rlv, and in on the left side I can select Ventoux.avi - ventoux.pgmf - ventoux.rlv , but there's no other button I can press to start a training...

It's been two days since I've been trying to get it to work but I just don't seem to get there. I can't really find any solutions online. Maybe you guys can help me out? A (short) step-by-step guide on how to start a training or real life video would be great...

Fyi, i'm a tech capable guy who's used to working with computers, software, etc... I just can't seem to get this to work :-).

Same here, the only sensor my ant+ usb stick sees through Golden Cheetah is my heart strap, yet the same ANT+ stick through Zwift sees HR, Power, Speed, Cadence

Hi,

Possibly a silly question, but have you successfully paired your
trainer? (Having nothing selected in the device list is about the only
reason I can think of for the start button doing nothing..)

On that sidebar on the left of the Train screen, you should also see a
'Devices' section with at least one entry. (If you don't see it, click
the little lightning icon at the bottom to expand it).

If thats the issue, you'll want to go through the pairing dialogs, make
sure it's picked up the trainer on the FE-C channel, and set the power
and speed & cadence channels to unused.

Let me know how that goes.

Cheers,
Jon

mine is a dumb trainer, are you saying you need a smart trainer to use this part of GC?

I was hoping a dumb trainer, with power meter (on bike) and other on-bike sensors would be compatible

Hi,

No, a dumb trainer is perfectly fine, that advice was in response to the
original query about a Vortex T2180.

What do you see in the ANT+ pairing dialog when all your sensors are awake?

Jon

Yes, any device would do. No need for it to be a trainer.

Normally I do not see anything, but on the most recent attempt at pairing my HR strap did show up but nothing else.

Note all of the ant+ sensors are picked up by zwift on the same laptop, the same distance away from the bike so its not a weak ant+ signal issue

A couple of other thoughts;

Make sure you're closing down any other software that might be using the
USB adapter before starting GC (Garmin ANT Agent, Garmin Express, Zwift
etc).

If you're not using it already, it may also be worth trying the current
development build, as that's a bit better at reporting any device access
issues.

I also played with this. Got a gpx from a strava ride, generated estimated power data for the gpx, then converted that ride to a workout in gc. I then managed to get it to load in trainer mode and I rode it with my kickr.

I am not sure what I experienced though...

The program definitely controlled my kickr's resistance, it asked me for power and I gave it what it wanted. The power (and cadence, and heartrate) was showing in the workout graph, but there was no warning of what was to come. Really was surprising to have the power go up and down almost at random. The ride is a set of distinct phases, slow climb for 15 minutes, steep climb for 35 minutes, then downhill/flat mtb riding for 20 minutes, etc. It was fun for a bit and I sort of pretended I was doing the ride even though I couldn't tell where I was on it.

When I was done I hit stop, saved the workout. Was a bit disappointed that strava saw no altitude or map data, or whatever. Just looked like a pretty kooky trainer workout.

Does this experience sound like what people would expect for this?

Is there a mode where I could take a ride with a MONSTER climb (3500') and then re-ride it for time? Sorta like Fulgaz?

Hi Eric,

You should see the course profile on the screen. It's not currently
supported in the new "Workout Editor" chart though, so you'll want to go
to View -> Add Chart and add a "Workout" chart instead..

Is expected that GC won't fake location/elevation data for a trainer ride.

Cheers,
Jon

Hey, so when I import a real mtb ride's gpx file, and then make a workout out of it, and then attempt to ride it, what should I be experiencing?

Does the workout creator create some wattage request based on the estimated wattage on the ride? Or is it based on the altitude and slope of the ride? Or what?

The workout I experienced sure didn't feel (or after the fact look) like a long climb. I'm trying to understand the intent or current state.

What I would like is a way to be able to re-ride a certain segment, so if I pedal hard I can do it in 45 minutes, or I can lounge and do it in an hour. I think that's how the RLVs work, but I don't know how to generate that from a gpx.

Thanks!
Eric

PS: Here is the ride I did based on the gpx.

Hi,

So when you use the workout wizard to create a workout from an activity,
it creates a .crs (course) file. This is essentially a long list of
distance/gradient combinations.

If you've added a "Workout" chart to train view, you should then see a
representation of the course profile, much like you'd see the elevation
within the saved activity itself.

Should work just like you say, assuming you have a smart trainer. For
example you might be on a 500m segment of 10% incline, and the power
that the trainer is demanding will be modelled on the speed you are
riding. Take it easy and that section will take longer to cover, or
pedal hard and you'll cover the distance faster.

I don't train with video, but .rlv files are a way to synchronise a
video of the ride to the distance covered in the workout, so instead of
just looking at a graph of the profile, you can have video matching your
location on-screen.

Hope that helps a bit?

Cheers,
Jon

Trainer is a wahoo kickr. Rlv behave like you say, like I'd expect.

The power in the workout below was imposed on me. There were quite a few options when I created the workout, maybe I chose the wrong ones or maybe something is amiss with my altitude data?

Thanks for confirming that it should work. I'll give it another go and see.

Thanks!

I seem to have the same issue. GC installs fine, but when I try to link up my Tacx Vortex Smart, it recognizes the power and cadence+speed, but it doesn't recognize the FE-C. It worked when I used Trainer Road, but it won't recognize it now no matter what I do.

Any ideas?
