Hi,

When I create an overview dashboard, the width of the pannel doesn't save when I close the software as usual. It seems to be noticeable especially when I implement a user chart tile. How to fix it?

Thanks for your work,

Guillaume

I should fix that,  but for now you are better off making the tile span columns (hold shift while dragging the right hand side).
Spanning tiles usually leads to a much more elegant layout.

Hi Mark,
thanks for the new version. However on my Windows 10 system it does not work very well.
Adding a new 'Overview' leads to GoldenCheetah hanging for a long time and crashing afterwards. After reopening it and trying to click in the new Overview it immediately crashes.
The same happens when adding a 'Table Tile' with the default 'Zones' selected to my existing 'Overview'.
I can repair it only by restoring the old 'analysis-perspectives.xml'.

I add the crash.log, maybe it helps.

Regards
HWA

Be good to hear if all windows users have this issue... anyone else on Windows experience this crash?

I have another problem. The personalized color settings of the theme don't save in the new build and go back to default each time I close and re-open the software.
Do you have any idea?
Thank you.

I cannot recreate this. Make sure you shut down GC cleanly after applying the theme and it will save settings, including the fact the upgrade was applied at startup.

For me, the version under Windows 10 also always crashes when I want to switch to activities or trends.

I reinstalled GC without old data from GC and my user data. All other functions work for me. I have no R and no Python installed.

Mark, can you share the code of your "Power and W'balance" tile in https://user-images.githubusercontent.com/142876/129443042-f6f00ffc-9660-476b-a073-23eab793e42d.png ? I find it very interesting, but I can't replicate it.

Thanks

Does not crash for me on Win10 and latest build. I don't have any R directory or python home setup. I thought python was built-in? My downloaded python charts seem to work with option of R and Python enabled.

Some how my "Library" trend chart disappeared in the last version. So if I click on the default charts like "Stress (TISS)" it does nothing. How do I get that back?

Library chart is just a normal Trends chart but with the checkbox 'Use Sidebar settings' checked.

Problem with GC crash in July version for Linux, is fixed. Link to problem with July version for Linux

New colors in GC? I know i can change some stuff in options, but i didn't do any color changes.
Most data was in orange/gold (if i remember right) color before and now is in light blue. I like it a lot.

Not sure if this question/thread already exists. Is it possible to make Train view the same way as "Overview" in Activities or Trends?
In overview all tiles fill in the space. But in Train view, charts need to have the same height or width, to avoid empty space in each row of charts.

This is a natural next step for the UI- remove tiled mode and just use the overview for that kind of thing.
It will mean the train view "charts" will need to be converted to tiles, but makes a lot of sense.

Won't be in 3.6 but could add to the 3.7 backlog.

Oh boy.

I just tried the development build on a Mac. Its terrible.

1) graphics performance is dire,  unusable IME, esp. coming from Linux
2) dialog layouts are fugly, qt tries to be "more mac" and it looks dreadful.
3) the default layouts, scaling and fonts look horrible.

All in all I found the whole thing bordering on unusable. I cannot believe I am alone in this
I'm not sure what to do at this point, but certainly it is very disappointing.

Which part of GC are you referring to or do you mean generally.
I am running the Aug. 14th build on a mac and it seems fine/no different.

The overview, dragging around, interacting, scrolling.
I have a 5k retina display in a MBP and its super slow, at least compared to running on Linux (i7/4k)

Will be looking into why.

Yes, scrolling is indeed sluggish on a current Macbook.

A suggestion: (at least for Macs) make the data lines in overview charts 4pt or 5pt else they disappear on interpolation.

Mark,

On my 2020 MacBook Pro 13" M1, the latest version of GC works perfectly. I'm not experiencing any sluggishness, scrolling issue, etc. For reference, I have 2,842 activities, and I can scroll from the top to the bottom (or anywhere in between) without any lag / jerkiness / etc. The activities list scrolls like I would expect, and loading a new activity is basically instantaneous.

Cheers,

Matthew

Is this the Activities>Overview you get if you go to View>Reset?
And the 2 views are controlled by the checkbox Vie>Tabbed not tiled.

This seems to be OK on my Macbook Air 13". Seemed to take a few seconds to become fully responsive but then seemed fine. Fonts are a bit small tiled on a 13" but sort of expect that and tabbed they are fine.

The performance issues with the overview on Mac are due to the way mouse events are handled for user charts. If I remove the user chart performance goes back to acceptable. Will look at how this can be resolved.

Sorry if I wasn't clear: The overview page / charts works perfectly. I can switch between activities, and the overview charts page updates instantaneously. The only issue I see is that on the Route chart, no map displayed behind the GPS track.

Since MacOS doesn't have any GPU acceleration available for Qt Charts (lots of technical reasons) painting is expensive, more so than on Windows and Linux. There was some errant code that caused too many paint updates with user charts that created performance issues, especially on mouse events (move/hover etc). I've fixed this. Graphics performance is never going to be stellar, we need to look at Qt6/QtQuick in v3.7 to resolve that.

The scrolling issue was just a resolution thing, needed to scroll by more pixels for each mouse wheel "click" to make it feel more snappy.
Other than that some of the defaults and scaling needs to be addressed so Mac/Linux/Windows all "feel" the same.

So basically, its a lot better now, will be in the next development release.

First of all I would like to thank you Mark (and the rest of the development team) for your effort - the new version looks really cool.

On my machine running 64bit window 10 the version is not  stable as previous versions. The errors I'm getting are related to GPU memory. Please find attached the error message.
I'm getting this errors when switching from activities to trends bot not always. If I load a more demanding chart (python chart)  in activities  and then I switch to trends then it crashes. If I use standard charts and then switch to trends then then the application doesn't crash.
Hope it helps to make it more stable.

Route tile in Overview is not a (GC) chart nor support map background.

Hmmm no problems on my  MacBook pro 15" ( 2019)  wit latest OS build.... other than that pesky search/filer field displaying black text on black background (dark mode) the moment I start typing in it.

There however some new errors appearing in Python models...
quite a few models have:

import requests

this returns an error saying there is no module named requests.

I'm a Python newbe... but from my research into this, it may be that Python is not supporting requests in the latest versions... I am probably wrong... but it is the impression I get.

requests is not one of the Included Python packages, if you want to use it, you need to install a separate Python 3.7, required packages plus requests and any others your scripts require. See the wiki.

What in the world is that date format with random '.' in the month name and sometimes 4 chars when we request MMM !

The code that tries to work out if a column is a date will never work with that, before we try to fix it, is that how dates should look in the first place, and apologies, but that is German?

Yes right is German.
If the Duden is used for spelling, then März, April, Juni, and Juli are written out. In the ISO 8601 standard, all months are abbreviated. Could perhaps be set so in the German translation.

Thanks,

I've added a fix for those date formats (I think!).
I also added helper datafilter functions (aggmetrics, aggmetricstrings, asaggmetric)  for aggregating metrics on trends view and a legacy selector on trends views to help save on typing.

Thanks for the feedback, it helps a lot.

The new datafilter functions (aggmetrics, aggmetricstrings, asaggmetric) work very well.
Only the average temperature still shows a wrong value.
When I create the average temperature as KPI, I come up with:

{ avg <- sum(metrics(Average_Temp)[x>-255] * metrics(Duration) ) / sum(metrics(Duration) );}

close to the correct value.

The sorting by date work very well.

A wish not a must would be if the sort order is saved.
for example the athlete weight always starts with the current date. Now it is always the oldest date.

In activities the intervals in the overview chart are sorted by number grouped and not ascending or descending. Would be nicer if they could be sorted ascending or descending.

I have made the sort column / order reinstated after restart, so it will always be set to whatever sorting you used before.
This was the most sensible way to do this, since configuring it was either super complicated for the user, or super complicated to code. Either way it would likely just confuse most people !

WRT the last 2 crash reports:
- if the error involves Qt WebEngine it may be a cache issue due to change of Qt versions, removing athlete Temp folder contents while GC is closed and restart may fix it.
- several crashes related to QGraphicsScene has been fixed after this dev build was released, Windows users can download the last master build (see https://groups.google.com/g/golden-cheetah-developers/c/5fZUO9DbJDY/m/dvgmL094BgAJ), or wait for the next dev build.

With a dedicated post I represented problems of enabling the python installed on my pc. I wonder, in order not to have two identical versions of python (one personal and one pre-installed on GC) and above all to solve the problems of enabling personal python (I understand there are several users who have the same problem as me and who have noticed a considerable instability of the python environment after the dev of august) is it possible to have the possibility to install the packages needed by your graphics on the python pre-installed on GC independently? If it is possible what is the way?
