I don't see anything in the archives, but has anyone come up with a way to get a daily HRV measurement from an Apple Watch or iPhone to Golden Cheetah? Figured it was worth asking before trying to re-invent the wheel. Thanks.

You can export all your data as an XML file, including HRV measurements, from the Health app on your iPhone or you can some iPhone app to streamline the process.

I found this blog useful for the general context, even if you don't plan to use hrv4training: https://medium.com/@altini_marco/how-to-make-sense-of-your-apple-watch-heart-rate-variability-hrv-data-89bf4a510438

That's a great resource, Ale! I'll dig into it. Thanks so much.

Have you looked at HRV4Training? I think it's $10 or something. I use it and you can export then import into GC very easily. I don't know what data the XML file will have, but HRV is pretty much all over the place during the day so if it has every reading it'll probably be useless. I think it's much better to take one measurement when you wake up and base everything off that (which HRV4Training makes easy using the Apple Watch).

Thanks, Andrew. If I’m understanding this, data from HRV4Training will give me a collection of measurements, from which GC can derive a single reading for the day? Or if I do the morning reading, will GC import that as the “correct” reading for the day?

I’ve been using an Apple Watch app called AutoSleep, which also records a single HRV reading from a morning breathing exercise. I can access that data with a shortcut and then write it to a file. In theory, I could then import that file into GC, which would allow me to be using a consistent reading in both apps.

Just need to find the time to give it a try…
