Apologies if this is obvious.... but should the map view in training mode update and "follow" the current location? Looking at the code and other peoples comments about it historically, it seems it's supposed to, but it's not doing it for me.

I've taken the steps I think I need to:
1. selected activity with gpx route
2. selected train
3. created a crs from the gps
4. added the map.
5. pedalled...

the map displays but never moves/pans and doesn't show any "current position" marker.

am I missing something obvious?

Hard to tell from your description, but do you have the activity selected from the activity tab before moving over to train view, and are you pressing the play button, and I guess it's worth checking that you have your sensors set up.

Hi,

yes, activity selected in the activity tab. the map displays on the train view page, sensors all working, workout graph progresses with time, workout progresses through the crs file over time adjusting the trainer resistance, the distance realtime value increases but the map doesn't change, no moving or position marker displayed on it.
so wanted to check that it does/should work for other people and what it *should* do so I know what to investigate.

Cheers,
Ivor

Hi Ivor,

Can you provide a screenshot of the map you are referring to? From your description it sounds like you would like to "follow" on a map where your ride file was taken/generated from. I'm not sure if this is a supported feature or not.
How did you add the map to Train View?

Hi Mike,

No problems, I concluded that the current dev build doesn't support this in the new RideMapWindow, so I changed my local code to get this working so that the bike icon follows the current position based on the train telemetry distance.
I'm not sure who's working on the trainwindows at the moment it looks like they're being reworked and reorganised, I'll ask/look on the dev mailing list.

Anyway, all working now (well google map anyway) and rather handy. I'll create a gist/patch with the change.

Many thanks

Ivor.

This used to work and I used it with the embedded street view, which was useful for figuring out courses but was pretty jumpy on the street view. When I got RLVs going I stopped using this.

So are the maps not working then?
I have been trying to figure why mine has stopped since using 3.4 version of the map window.

Thanks

Well thats good news then.
Can you tell me what obvious step I am missing then ?

Same issue as above, the map doesnt move, doesn't follow me, all sensors are ok as the old map was fine.

If I select show pointers?, the little red icon drops to the start of the map, then another icon on top, bit like a refresh icon.
Do I need to have intervals setup on the map ?

As I said, the old type google map was working fine (standard, not streetview), nothing had to be setup, it just worked..

Any help/ pointers appreciated on this -

Thanks
Adam

I have read through all available info on this but can only conclude that 'ride by map' does not work in 3.4 with the latest map chart.

However, if it does and any one out there is using this function can you please spend 5 mins explaining how - or at least point me somewhere that can ?

Do I need to try your latest development version?

Thanks
Adam

Dear All

I'm using the last W64 3.5 1903 Release.
I can't figure out how to use a "live" map (openstreet) in train mode.
I'm using gpx file.
I discovered the existing Altitude,Latitude, Longitude display.
I can't add a Map display.
Could you please let me know how to get this live "Map display"

PS Map display is OK on activity tab.
Thanks

This is a new feature and live map is not supported yet, see: https://github.com/GoldenCheetah/GoldenCheetah/issues/3021

Am I being dumb? But that link to issue 3021 has been closed and references version 3.5 Dev 1903, which means it is now available? Unfortunately I can't find this function. Any pointers please?

Thanks,

Jonathan

I’m not the one to judge. The ability to load a gpx to ride in Trainer mode is available as described. it is used like other supported trainer formats, but show the current position on a map would be a cool addition (not implemented yet). Again, see https://github.com/GoldenCheetah/GoldenCheetah/issues/3021

I was being dumb. I understand now - the functionality to follow the Gpx is there and pretty cool, but following the map as you ride, which is what I was hoping for, is not there yet. (But might come?)
