Hi
Downloaded this yesterday and will not open.. others seem Ok so I guess its just me.  I particularly wanted this as I am using the "TTS" import for using my old TACX RLVs in TRAIN.

If I do not download the C++ redistribute 2015 -2019 along with GC then I get the error

Annotation 2020-05-03 185545.jpg

If I do download the C++ etc with the Dev build then GC opens the athlete window starts loading data counts to 100% then nothing happens its shut down
This file is present on my drive, could anyone give me any pointers as to where it needs to be for GC to see it?
Any insight / help appreciated
TIA

I had a similar issue;
1) do not install over the top of an existing install - use a different folder or uninstall first
2) shutdown and restart after installing the VC C++ redistributable (like the dialog says).

Thanks Mark, installing to a new folder sorted it

Hi,

I have a similar problem, but your answer did not fix the issue.

2020-05-04.jpg

api-ms-win-core-winrt-l1-1-0.dll missing.
How can I fox this?

Thank you!

Did you install the VC redistributable at the end of the installation process, then reboot?

This may also be related, potentially a Windows related issue on your PC:

Hi,

yes, I installed VC redistributable.

I looked around and it seems its an artefact of upgrading to windows 10 from windows 8.

Microsoft have an article here:

One of the popular fixes in that thread was:
Replace C:\Windows10Upgrade\wimgapi.dll with the one from C:\Windows\System32\wimgapi.dll

But hopefully the answer is in there somewhere!

Hello Mark,

thank you for investigating.
My machine is still running on Win 7.
I have tried a lot of different solutions, but unfortunately, none of them worked for me.
I uninstalled VC and GC.
After a fresh install of both, it is still the same.
When I try to register the dll with "regsvr32 api-ms-win-core-winrt-l1-1-0.dll", I got an error that the file is missing.
It seems that this dll is not installed with VC, but GC wants to use it.
The file is truly not there in C:\Windows\System32\

I don't have a Windows 7/8 to test, but my summary for now is:

v3.5 was built using Qt5.9 which doesn't support Bluetooth but includes a dummy backend to allow the application to run anyway.

Now we are building with Qt5.14.2 which supports BTLE on Windows 10 and including that backend in the distribution, and it is failing on Windows 7 and 8, likely because it depends on features not present in these versions.

From a user report in another thread we know replacing Qt5Bluetooth.dll with the one included in v3.5 allows the program to run in Windows 8, likely because it is a dummy not depending on anything else, it would be interesting to test if the same hack works for Windows 7, or there are additional dependencies.

I think we need a better understanding of the situation so we can evaluate alternatives.

Based on this thread and the current global situation i will make a prediction for GC4:

In order to open GC4, the user must be vaccinated and chipped.

I would expect a Covid-19 vaccine be available before GC4.

Out of joke, don't forget this is the 1st dev build for 3.6, it may have glitches and to support older OS releases is not a priority right now, if you want to preview the newest features better have your SW updated.

On macOS and Linux we are generating continuous integration binaries able to run on the still-supported versions building on the oldest one: High-Sierra and Ubuntu 16.04

On Windows this is the first experience with continuous integration builds, so feedback is very important, currently to use the latest Qt to enable BTLE and to have the last fixes on Qt charts we need VS 2019 on Windows 2019, this may change before release or a patch or an off-line build may be necessary to support Windows 8 in the release version.

Or Panos to be running an operating system released in the last 10 years

In my case I am using Win 7 as I am still having problems with other applications when using Win 10.

I know it sounds unbelievable and I'm not happy with the situation, but it's the way it is.

Maybe I will switch to a different solution with Linux and a VM in the future, but at the moment I'm sticking to Win 7.

I downloaded 3.6 last night, I get the same System error VCRUNTIME140_1.dll not found.

I have a different folder and I did the restart.

I also tried uninstalling some of the C++ installs, there are so many of them. :(

I also have this problem, and have tried Mark's suggestions on my Windows 10 machine. Can't seem to get v3.6 to run.

I think I found a fix.

I uninstalled version 3.6 and C++ 2015.

Then installed GC3.6 and C++ Rebooted. And it still did not work.

Then I clicked on the C++ install in the GC3.6 directory (vc_redist.x64.exe) and re installed C++ 2015. Rebooted

And it worked!!

Hi,
I am having a different problem installing on widows 10 box.   I installed it and everything seemed ok when I clicked icon. It asked to pick athlete, which I did, then it started doing the percent loading like it does, but after it gets to 100% nothing happens.  Nothing on  screen and if I open task manager. No Golden Cheetah is running.   I have tried installing it several times and same thing.   It a mystery to me.
Thanks
Dennis

Look for goldencheetah.log, parallel to your athlete's folder, and check if there are error messages

This is the same issue a few people have had

a) do not install to the same folder as an existing install
b) install the vc++ redistributable
c) reboot before running

All 3 steps are required.

Using "Qt5Bluetooth.dll" from v3.5 in v3.6 also solved the issue for me.
Thank you!

Thanks for the feedback, we could investigate to deploy a different Qt5Bluetooth.dll depending on OS version in the installer.

Not judging anyone for using win7, thats a personal choice. But if its because of an old app you might get by better running win7 in a vm.

I did install and run win7 in a vm recently and took a few hours to setup, mostly downloading.

It may be possible to enable a simple check with a warning in the installer: the installation directory is not empty?

I think this is an upgrade issue since it doesn't happen installing over v3.6, I added a note to the release.
Anyway, we are open to contributions if you want to make the installer smarter.

Hi. I'm having an issue with 3.6 on Windows 10. I followed the following installation process after reading the information in this thread

1. Uninstall V3.5
2. Reboot
3. Install V3.6 in the default installation folder incuding the C++ redistributables
4. Reboot
5. Launch GC.
6. Select Athlete
7. Progress show 100% then nothing

The log file in the athlete folder has the following which suggests I need to apply the fix with the "Qt5Bluetooth.dll" from v3.5. Though as I uninstalled 3.5 in don't have the file is there any way to get it without installing 3.5 again?

Hi. There are 2 ways to resolve it. Either install the development build in a different location or uninstall the current version & install the development build in the default location
