Hello,
I'm trying to use SPEED and PACE in a few calculations. The charts below are my test charts to make sure of units and data points are correct. When these are used in a user data expression they are not always calculated correctly. If you look at the run cadence chart you will see that I have speed selected in curves, then i use SPEED in a user data expression. The green is the curves data points and the red is the calculated expression data points. The calculated should be identical to the green but it is not. This is true even if i turn off curves speed data in this chart. The Calculated expression values still display incorrectly.

Then when you look at the run pace and speed chart, you will see speed shows correctly but calculated pace is not correct. It is interesting how one chart to another is changing how the same calculated expression is displayed. Both SPEED and PACE are from the formula syntax and expressions wiki. At the moment i'm having to look at CSV data in excel and double check GC calculated data. It's not very efficient.

Thanks for the help,
Tim

Are you sure both charts are using the same smoothing?

SPEED is just the sample value in km/h, and SPEED curve and checking the Speed setting should give the same curves and it does in all my tests, you can enable the Stacked view to compare in the same chart (blue is SPEED formula):

PACE doesn't exist as sample value, Pace is a metric computing average pace, if you plot it as user data you will obtain an horizontal line since it is the average of the whole workout. If you want "instantaneous" pace you could calculate it from SPEED, it is just a change of units.

Yes i have the both charts using the same smoothing. The run pace and speed chart was modified from the originally installed performance chart that GC starts with. I ended up deleting this chart and creating a new one. Now it works.

Thanks for the heads up on PACE. I did see this later after looking closer at your UG_Special Topics_Formula Syntax and Expressions wiki page. One would assume it is instantaneous, as SPEED is instantaneous. If PACE is an average it mybe should be coded to average_pace not PACE?

Thanks for the help,
Tim

PACE doesn't exist yet, if added in the future it will be instantaneous pace.

Pace probably should be Average_Pace, but it was present way before other sports were added, so it was preserved for compatibility.
