Hi,

Automatic sync from Strava works fine but the lap information is missing. There are no intervals created based on the laps?

Yes, that needs fixing.

Hey,

the Strava sync exports an activity as a TCX file for the upload and the current TCX export in GC always writes all the data as one lap. Could you create an issue in the GitHub tracker for this?

I recently did some minor fixups for TCX anyway so I might look at this.

Regards,
Stefan

Hi,

Issue “Strava sync doesn't create intervals #2505” created. Thanks for taking a look at this, without it automatic sync isn’t very useful.

Regards,

Kari

I'll look into it, since the Strava API provides its own format I'll tackle the download of lap data first. It will be done before the next development release.

Thanks for raising the issue.

Just to confirm that ALL data channels are added when syncing with strava?

Aside from lap, workout name, bike, ride type, etc.. thinking more along the lines of elevation data, GCT, stroke rate..?

There was the issue in syncing with TP a while back that TP would not pass on some of the (then) new Garmin metrics. Just checking.

Jean

We currently export to TCX to upload, so this means extra data is lost (its discarded by Strava anyway).
The Strava API for download only supports the limited data that Strava supports:
  • "time"
  • "latlng"
  • "altitude"
  • "distance"
  • "velocity_smooth"
  • "heartrate"
  • "cadence"
  • "watts"
  • "temp"

For clarity, does the TCX format support laps and temp? These are the two things that never make it to Strava if I export a TCX file from GC. On occasion, I will get a random power spike that needs to be cleaned up. So, I will first upload to GC and remove the spike(s). Then, export to TCX. Finally, I upload to Strava. The laps and temp are never there. I assumed that perhaps this was a limitation of the TCX format.

Yes, Laps are supported, but they cannot overlap.
We don't export temperature - we should fix that too

I just checked, TCX doesn't support temperature.

We could upload FIT files - is there a particular reason TCX was chosen?

(I don't think the GC FIT export writes temperature, but at least there is support in the file format so that could be added)

K.. will be careful then.

Thanks Mark.

Huh. GC's uploads to Strava definitely used to include temperature data.

By the way, is it a know issue that files from an Edge 800 don't include temperature for the first few seconds? I'm not sure if this is a GC import thing, or a Garmin 800 thing. GC used to not handle it very gracefully, either, though I haven't checked recently. Negative numbers, weird graph scales, etc.

GPX supports temperature but not power. TCX vice versa. FIT export is pretty
new to GC so that suggests GPX may have used in the past.

I get the same issue with Garmin 800 not recording temperature for the first seconds. What I understood that GC does on the graphs is that it handles the temperatures as being in Fahrenheit with negative numbers for the first seconds where temperature isn't present.

A workaround is to manually type a value for the temperature on those first few seconds. Annoying though.
