Norton Safe Web, part of Norton 360 and other programs, warns users
that goldencheetah.org is not a safe site. It specifies that there 13
virus threats, specifically "malformed container violations". For more
info, you can link to http://safeweb.norton.com/report/show?url=goldencheetah.org.

I am sure this would have an effect on the popularity of GC. Are the
warnings for real?

Thanks,
Moshe.

Moshe,

It appears that this is an attempt for Symantec to insert itself as a
middleman between the user and site owners.

More reasons to stay away from Symantec stuff.

Cheers,

Andy

The article details troubles with getting Norton to remove the warning
after the threat was removed. However, "the security threat was
legitimate."

I use and love GC. I would love for it to find greater acceptance.
Ignoring millions of users because Norton wants to conquer the World
may be naive.

Regardless, is the security threat legitimate for goldencheetah.org?

Cheers,
Moshe.

All of the threats listed seemed to be related to messages on the old mailing list, which used to be hosted at goldencheetah.org. The site is secure and safe. Perhaps Sean can corroborate that.

I don't know what the user base of this product of Norton's is, but frankly, I'm unconcerned about it's impact on potential GC adopters.

Yeah, I have no idea what "Malformed container violation" means. But
goldencheetah.org itself is all static content these days, so it's
hard to have a security issue there.

bugs.goldencheetah.org, is dynamic content, but that's not what
they're complaining about.
