Let me ask about one more issue: Marc Kemps-Snijders told me at
LREC-2010 that GOLD is going to reference ISOCat categories some day soon.
I'm wondering what the status of this transition is -- is it just a
plan, or is it happening? Part of the reason I'm asking is that I
implemented a skeleton of an ontology/DCR interface for the freedict.org
project, and in doing so was able to look more closely at both GOLD and
ISOCat. As a linguist, I felt much happier about the content of GOLD's
categories, so if the redirection of GOLD towards ISOCat is indeed
happening, I would definitely like to ask the people in charge to
consider transferring the current content of GOLD's categories into
ISOCat rather than using those that ISOCat has now. Or to have the
latter replaced with GOLD's content, if that is possible.
Thanks,
Piotr
(I hope I get this right this time, given that I created the DCIF
document for the upload of the GOLD ontology into ISOCat. :))
We imported the GOLD concepts into ISOCat recently. So it is not just
a plan, we are actually working on this and we are working on this in
your preferred direction. However, as far as I know the imported DCs
are not visible to the public yet. I am not entirely sure when they
will be made public, but we are hoping for a quick process.
Additionally, the way I understand it is that the GOLD Ontology will
still remain available separately and any updates to it will then be
imported into ISOCat on a regular basis.
This is the short answer and I hope it helps a bit. Getting the first
email wrong scared me enough to not want to say anything wrong again.
:) If you are interested in details about the move, then Helen and I
would be happy to send you some more information about that.
Best regards,
Evelyn

Thanks! This is good news. I am very much interested in GOLD itself and
also the ISO specifications relying on ISOCat, so I'll be sure to
remember myself to you off-list in this matter, once I've dealt with two
deadlines that are coming my way much too fast.
And hey, I'm sorry about that first message, but come on, anyone who
claims the meaning the syntax any sentence I create has conveys misleads
exaggerates, I'm sure...
;-)
Best,
Piotr

I'd like to make sure for how to proceed to avoid redundancy if I can:
GOLD-2010 has no references to the particular categories in ISO DCR,
compare e.g.
http://linguistics-ontology.org/gold/2010/AblativeCase
Does that mean that if I want to use a persistent reference identifier
for e.g. ablative, I should choose from among the ISO DCR proposals the
one referring back to GOLD, to catch two birds at the same time?
(For now, I was able to locate only one reference to ablative there, but
it doesn't reference GOLD: http://www.isocat.org/rest/dc/1224 )
Thanks in advance,
Piotr

I am not on the GOLD team at LINGUIST List anymore, so I will only
address part of your question, and let the others handle the rest.
The ISOcat ID for AblativeCase in GOLD 2010 is 3057. So this link gets
you to the DC:
http://www.isocat.org/rest/dc/3057
In general, if you go to the ISOcat web interface:
http://www.isocat.org/interface/index.html
you can find all GOLD 2010 concepts under My Workspace > Public >
RELISH > GOLD 2010.
I hope this helps in finding the right ISOcat IDs.

Evelyn
