it's hard to reply to group from gmail, by default

The way to properly reply to the group, from email (gmail), is to click the Reply All button

Or select it from that drop down seen in the screenshot (if it's not the default, in Settings->Default reply behavior:)

This sends email to the group and to everyone else.

But, if I just click on Reply as seen in this screenshot:

It will just Reply to the person who sent the message to the group (just as if I were to choose Reply from the above drop down list) as seen here:

(btw it's a pain working with images when trying to post this from groups website(as I am just doing), at least in firefox; sorry if everything looks unaligned)

So, basically, I find myself realizing that I've sent the reply only to that specific person instead of to the group, just because I used the suggested Reply url(right below the received email, see middle screenshot) instead of the Reply(All) button (see first screenshot)

The "right" solution would be to have each email sent to group members contain this field:
reply-to:
golan...@googlegroups.com

(I see this working for another group)

So when someone clicks Reply it would send it to group rather to the specific person.

I am sure I am not the only one encountering this behaviour in gmail. Some people may choose to reply from the groups website instead, but I see it as a workaround.

Any thoughts on this?

I think neither group admins nor its users have nothing to do with how
the Google Groups web interface works. If you think it needs
improvement, the best thing you can do, in my opinion, is to contact
Google support and try to convince them.

Ok, but leaving the Google Groups web interface aside, my problem is really when replying to the group from gmail,
and if they(group admins?) could just add a reply-to: field to all incoming emails from the group (which would point to the group email) then this would be solved. (I've seen this reply-to existing in another group elixir-lang-talk and it all works quite well, though I've no idea how this can be changed)

(resent this to group, because I obviously click Send and it went to Konstantin's email only)

You've correctly stated in your previous post that the default reply
"kind" is configurable in "Setting | Default reply behavior". Why
don't you select the "reply to all" as your default?

In my first post, I have had that already selected as such, that is: Settings -> Default reply behavior -> Reply All  (and it is still selected as such, haven't changed it)
However, only by using the button(on top right) it does the Reply All, as I've noticed (from those screenshots) the Reply url(below the received email) does only Reply
...but I notice now that to your message there appears to be an Reply All url before Reply, Forward ... but that means the Reply All url doesn't show on the first post (or it sometimes doesn't show?) so the best way to make sure is to use the Reply button on top right of received email... that might be an acceptable workaround for me, but I'd prefer if this were maybe fixed with a reply-to: field, that is, if it's not too much trouble or not many objections against it(or pro the current behaviour), so that this way any cases of Reply would be sure to reply to the group.

The group can be set to "Reply to group" but then you don't get a number of other things that make it work nicely in gmail, like CC'ing the participants in a thread.

I was afraid someone is going to say that :)
I guess I'll be using either the top right Reply All button or the bottom Reply All "url", though I am not sure if this latter one appears in the email received as the first post in a new thread. I'll keep an eye out, maybe I was mistaken and it does appear even in that case.

Thank you all.

Confirmed there is a Reply All even in the case of the first post. I'm sorry for the noise, I must've clicked the Reply "url" by instinct(or something) and didn't realize, and the screenshot was taken after I've already replied (in which case it only shows Reply and Forward urls)

Apologies for the useless thread.
Peace out.

this is how it originally worked.  I have an old group setup years
ago and that is the way it goes.   I spent an entire day with our new
group and checked every setting to the old group and everything is the
same except reply just goes to the poster.   Do the google group admins
not understand how list servers work?
