gob encode/decode errors

When I gob decode I get no warnings, but on loading the file back in I
see

"DecodeValue of unassignable value" and "attempt to decode into a non-
pointer" messages.

Can anyone explain these, or give me a good strategy to debug (I added
debug.go to the gob Makefile but it generates a lot of output).

have you got a small program that demonstrates the issue?

(most likely cause: you're not passing a pointer to Decode)
