This page
 https://blog.cloudflare.com/cloudflare-fights-cancer/
describes a number of performance improvements implemented in a fork of zlib.

I was wondering if some of the methods described might be useful in improving the performance of compress/gzip

Thanks,
Glen

Hi!

Thanks for the heads up. I think the assembler optimizations can be carried over.

I have already started on some helper function that were intended for deflate, but can also be used as general byte matching helpers.

I will see if I can make any improvements to deflate, and if they are unobtrusive, send in a CL.

Great! And awesome you've implemented: it: http://blog.klauspost.com/optimized-gzipzip-packages-30-50-faster/

I have wanted to understand deflate for a while, and this seemed like a good opportunity.
