Hey all -

I'm just starting to get into the language and was wondering if there's an IRC channel anywhere for people with newbie questions about Go usage.

Cheers!

Get live support at #go-nuts on irc.freenode.net, the official Go IRC channel.

Yes indeed, #go-nuts on freenode is a very active channel.

I'm surprised. I checked #go-nuts more than once and I've never seen
any other communication above "foo logged in" or "bar logged out" (or
something like that). I must be doing something stupidly wrong.

Like most IRC channels there's moments of inactivity. Overall though there's a ton of regulars who are very helpful. I'm in Perth, Australia and often run into 4-5 of the same helpful Gophers even during my odd timezone.

People are generally idling until someone asks a question.
There are lots of helpful people waiting to review code, answer questions and tell you how you're doing it wrong.

Also, for the record, I turn off join/part notifications... with hundreds of people in the channel and only a few conversing even somewhat-actively, it's easy to get lost in the minutiae.

You can also read it asynchronously on botbot.me [1].

Hi, I already know (from the help) that #go-nuts on irc.freenode.net, is the official Go IRC channel.
What I dont find anywhere is information on how to join the IRC channel. . .
Will someone please provide a guide on how to join the IRC channel?
Thanks

That is not a Go related question.

Search for IRC and your operating system on the Internet. That will
point you to some IRC clients that you can use. Read the manual for
those clients.

Now this is a curious question.

Never thought I'd see something like this :-)

Finding golang channel, one just has to read on the website, or google 5 seconds.

And seeing someone who knows how to write to a mailinglist but not how to join IRC is also seldom :-)
Grab an IRC client, type "/connect chat.freenode.net", "/nick myname", "/join #go-nuts".

Anyways, seems to be the first question on the list that I could answer! Yay!

More simple. In your browser: webchat.freenode.net

And yeah, always, always RTFM and STFW before asking in any mailing list pr chat, or channel, or IRL...

Thanks Herman, the web link worked right away, because it does not ask for a username and password.
Then it is a closed question, in addition, I understood this is not the right place to ask about this subject.

BTW, I always  RTFM and STFW before asking, still found no document nor search, and not even you could answer my simple question. Please disregard, I can see it is waaaay too basic for you, may be that's the reason it is not documented anywhere. I read the IRC manual, it is a general explanation, I searched the internet, all you find is general information. I followed "blue hut" instructions below (found no way to enter any command), but don't worry, I'll keep trying different IRC clients, may be I will find a friendly one like the webchat you suggested.

Thanks again, no more replies needed/required/wanted.

I'd suggest add this link to faq.
