hello

i have been asked to ship logs to a server with logstash
so i tried to use a log shipper and it asked me to compile it using Go
the logs i try to ship are on an AIX server and i can't install Go on this server
maybe there is a special installation pack or maybe Go just isn't compatible with AIX ?

thank for your answers

The first google result for "golang aix": https://groups.google.com/d/topic/golang-nuts/ByTFX0mxloE

afaict, Ian Lance Taylor's first reply still holds: https://groups.google.com/d/msg/golang-nuts/ByTFX0mxloE/DXgbU0JxTMQJ

Neither gc, nor gccgo are ported to AIX yet. gc needs a compiler,
gccgo just needs AIX support.

I am a little confused by the premise: if the logs are on an AIX server
and you don't already run Go on the machine, why is Go required to ship logs
from it?

FWIW, there are many non-Go implementations of logstash shippers.
I imagine quite a few would work on AIX.

go is required by a shipper named logstash forwarder (or lumberjack)

If you mean https://github.com/elasticsearch/logstash-forwarder - it is a Go variant of the Java based logstash shipper: http://www.vmdoh.com/blog/centralizing-logs-lumberjack-logstash-and-elasticsearch

Or in other words: you don't need Go to achieve what you want to do in this case.
