Hello Gophers,

For the Go 1.20 release, the team will be making a few changes to the release process. We’ll be increasing the development window by 3 weeks, keeping the final release date the same. The freeze period will therefore be reduced by the same number of weeks.

The updated Go 1.20 release schedule is as follows (changes in bold):

  • New freeze date November 21st 2022, previous date November 1st 2022. Please use this time to harden Go 1.20 features and land them early if possible. We are removing the exception for CLs in review. All non-fix CLs will require a freeze exception once the freeze starts.

  • The final release (GA) is still targeted for early February, 2023

The success of this plan for Go 1.20 will help in optimizing the release process for the Go 1.21 release. Looking forward to your support and feedback.

Best,

Joedian for the Go release team
