Hi all,

Before the pandemic, we used to hold contributor summits at Go conferences. They were a good way to get the people involved in active Go development together in person. That helped us connect more and made our online interactions more effective. I am very happy to be able to say that the Go team will have a decent presence at GopherCon in San Diego this year and that we will be holding a contributor summit too. It would be on Tuesday, September 26 from 8-12am in San Diego. Space is limited and we can't guarantee a spot to everyone, but if you are interested to attend, please feel out https://forms.gle/jjTMKb53aS3JG9b49. Thank you!

More on the mechanics and timing: the main GopherCon conference is Wednesday and Thursday. In past years, the day before (Tuesday) was workshops and the day after (Friday) was "community day". Today, workshops and community day are merged into a single day (Tuesday). We will be holding this limited-attendance contributor workshop on Tuesday morning, and then on Tuesday afternoon we will host a "Go team room" where anyone can drop in any time to hang out, chat with us, and ask questions.

I'm looking forward to seeing many of you at GopherCon!

Best,
Russ

Russ,

if you can possibly record the contributor sessions at Gophercon, it would give the rest of us a chance to peek at things without incurring the cost of airplane tickets and hotels and meals.  That way those who do not make the VIP list for the limited space can still reap a little of the benefit.

The periodic Go team office hours" have allowed me to get past some snags in my pursuit to compiler/runtime semi-literacy.

Best,

Mark

It's tricky to do that well. Normally these are unconference style with different groups in different corners of the room and some people even moving back and forth between them or starting splinter groups, all of which makes virtual attendance and recordings challenging. In-person ends up being richer interactions that are not always easy to map back to virtual. A large part of the reason for the in-person is to focus on the in-person benefits of just connecting better and recharging social batteries that help smooth our interactions over the coming year, to focus on making up for what's missing virtually. I will make sure we set aside time at the end of the morning to write a summary of what we discussed that can be shared on this list.

I am also very happy that we have started the compiler/runtime virtual meeting / office hours and we will absolutely continue those too.

Best,
Russ
