Guys!

Hope this finds you all well. Merry Merry to all & Happy (almost) 2016!

I'm traveling to India & Sri Lanka for ~2.5 weeks in Feb.  We're planning to do a week in Sri Lanka and 10 days in India - quick I know. Any recos would be greatly recommended!

Broad plan: fly in / out of Mumbai, fly the next day to Colombo, Sri Lanka and travel around for a week. Fly to Goa for a day or 2 recharge on the beach, then probably Delhi, Agra & Rajasthan.  When I type it out, I realize we should probably stay for another month... alas, we'll have to go again :)

Thank you!!

Happy Holidays and Happy New Year to all my Kili friends!

Kerry-
SriLanka is on my places to visit, hopefully some day soon.
So here's my list if I ever make it there:
Ruins of Anuradhapura
Sigiriya Rock (climb up)
Polonnaruwa Vatadage (Buddha relic temple)
Any beach on the south coast (Mirissa is on my list)
Galle (fortified city)
River Kelani (for white water rafting)
Hikkaduwa (popular tourist destination on south coast of Sri Lanka- for night life and water sports)

India - Goa is awesome to just chill, beaches are beautiful, probably remind you of Zanzibar. Enjoy an ayurvedic massage if you can. Local sea food is a must have, they say (I'm vegetarian). But don't miss the local dessert- Bebinca!
The rest of your India tour will be standard tourist fare. If you are careful with the water you drink you will be good shape to enjoy the beauty of the land :)

Have fun!

Sujaa

Hey Kerry/Sujaa,

The suggested week long itinerary is quite nice, I guess Sujaa has prepared immensely well for a trip to Sri Lanka. I had a memorable family trip there in 2011 (9 days) and frankly, I wish if we had someone like you to guide at the time. 😊

The best method to travel would be to hire a car for the full week – it saves a lot of trouble and the driver can usually double up as a good tour guide. The 100m tall rock at Sigiriya is a must-go attraction and you shouldn’t think about missing it. Since it is probably 6 nights, you could select one among Anuradhapura or Polonnaruwa. The former is a fair drive northwards and it may be better to avoid unless you really dig the Buddhist history.

Similarly Galle is quite a bit of a drive down south and we decided to cancel in favour of an extra night at Nuwara-eliya, which is a hill station and there is a tea factory en route (you can have a free tour to have a first hand experience – it just lasts about an hour).

You could close it out by Colombo (shopping!) and any of the beaches near by (Negombo, its quite close to the airport – so can double up as your last pit stop).

If needed, I could suggest a few tour guide, who can customize the whole trip depending on where exactly you wish to go.

Cheers to all and wishing Happy holidays as well as a wonderful year ahead! We maybe off to Dubai around X’mas and NY.

Keep safe and enjoy!

Nandoo

I wish B and I had a little more time to try to catch up with you.
When you start jobs in the UAE, you are on 'probation' for 6 months, during which you can't take vacation days (you can take them, but you don't get paid...) so we're just trying to hammer weekend trips and catch the redeye to work!

I do hope you are all quite well and enjoying whatever adventures you're on.  We'll probably be looking to move (back to teh States, preferably Chicago, SF, LA or NY) in AUgust when Beth's research is done, so if you're interested in hiring a new and more wordly Rob D to give your company a jolt, get at me...
