The Department of Conservation and Recreation is holding a public listening session at 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 4, via Zoom, regarding a major tree-planting project being proposed for Torbert Macdonald Park in Medford.

DCR is updating the Macdonald Park Vegetation Management Plan from 2017, with several goals:

·       Tree planting of over 200 new and replacement trees (two dozen or more cottonwood trees reached the end of their life span, and over 100 ash trees have succumbed to the Emerald Ash Borer); to achieve species diversity; to provide more shade for park users; to provide enhanced wildlife habitat;

·       Increasing pollinator habitat

·       Managing invasive species

·       Promote health of the landscape

·       Create volunteer opportunities, through DCR and its partner organization in this effort, the Mystic River Watershed Association (MyRWA)
