Hi Go Green Medford Members --
My name is Chrissy Foot, and I am a member of 350 Mass, a state-wide climate group active in Medford. I am writing to ask you to mobilize for a Medford City Council meeting on April 2nd.
As I'm sure you all know, the oil and gas industry has dumped huge amounts of carbon in the atmosphere, wrecked the environment, and made huge profits, all while lying to the public about the connection between burning fossil fuels and climate change. There are bills before the MA legislature (nicknamed "Make Polluters Pay") that would require top polluters to contribute big $$$ to a “superfund” that will then be used to reduce the impact of the coming climate-related damages in Massachusetts.
On April 2nd the Medford City Council will vote on a resolution to support these bills. I am hoping you all will support this municipal resolution.
Medford has the chance to join Boston and Cambridge (which have already passed similar resolutions) and other communities currently working to send a clear message to our state representatives that big polluters must be held accountable for climate related damages.
Do you think that some Go Green Medford members would be interested in attending the City Council meeting on April 2nd, and maybe even briefly speaking in support of the resolution (we can provide talking points)? We are also planning an informal info session for Weds March 27th (details TBA) for folks who want to learn more ahead of the meeting.
I'd appreciate hearing whether you think you can join us at the Council meeting on 4/2; we're trying to get a rough idea of how many supporters we are able to line up. Also let me know if you have any questions. I'll circle back with specifics on the info session when I have them.
Thanks for your consideration!
Chrissy
