PhD Scholarship on Pacifism in International Relations Theory
Applications are now being sought for a 3-year PhD scholarship within the Political Science Department at the University of Canterbury, Christchurch, New Zealand.
The one-off scholarship is funded under the Marsden Research Project “A New Politics of Peace? Investigations in Contemporary Pacifism and Non-violence”. The project is led by Professor Richard Jackson of the National Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies at the University of Otago and Dr Jeremy Moses of the Political Science Department at the University of Canterbury. It will run for three years and will explore a variety of theoretical and practical issues surrounding pacifist ideology and non-violent practice in New Zealand politics and international relations. The primary supervisor of the successful applicant will be Dr Jeremy Moses.
The successful applicant will have a strong academic background in international relations theory and an interest in the place of pacifist thought within that. A working knowledge of just war theory would be an advantage. A Masters degree or strong First Class Honours degree in a related field is a pre-requisite.
The scholarship provides a NZD$25,000 annual stipend and covers tuition fees for a period of three years.

- a cover letter
- a full academic transcript;
- a curriculum vitae;
- a 2-3 page proposal outlining a potential area of research relevant to the Marsden project;
- One academic reference.
