Dear Colleague,

Greetings from the Institute of Chinese Studies, Delhi.

It gives me great pleasure to invite you to the annual All India Conference of China Studies (AICCS) being hosted by the ICS in collaboration with Goa University, in Goa from 13-14 December 2017. This major conference will have participation by scholars from all across India and we would welcome a delegation from your University/Department/Institute/Think Tank to attend the meetings.

The AICCS is the flagship event of the ICS, convened annually every December, with the principal objective of spreading interest in and strengthening research on China and East Asian Studies in India. With a special theme each year, the AICCS is organised in collaboration with an academic institution/university outside Delhi, ideally – but not necessarily - where research and teaching in China Studies are conducted.

Nine conferences have been held so far – University of Delhi (2006 and 2009), Jadavpur University (2010), Central University of Hyderabad, (2011) Shantiniketan (2012), IIM-Kozhikode (2013), Benaras Hindu University (2014), Sikkim University (2015), and Mumbai University (2016). This year, the 10th AICCS will be held in collaboration with Goa University from 13-14 December. The 10th AICCS has a special theme – ‘China in the Maritime Domain’ and papers will be presented across two days. It is a matter of great satisfaction to us that these conferences have been steadily gaining in popularity and are an eagerly awaited annual event for the young China scholars of the country.

Another notable feature of the AICCS is the Mira Sinha Bhattacharjea Award – instituted in the memory of one of the finest China scholars of India, a founding member of the ICS and its former Director - for the best original paper at the AICCS. The selection is made by a group of senior scholars, based on methodology, argument and presentation.

On behalf of Prof Patricia Uberoi, ICS Chairperson and Prof. Varun Sahni, Vice Chancellor, Goa University, I welcome you to attend the 10th AICCS in Goa in December 2017. I would appreciate if you could circulate this mail to interested colleagues/students and encourage them to submit abstracts for the Conference. The details of the AICCS are available on the ICS website: http://www.icsin.org/all-india-conference-of-china-studies

Best regards,

Ambassador Ashok K Kantha
