The exact vector of the disease is unclear, however it is likely caused by exposure to nanite spores which are prevalent on Manhattan Island during the time of Crysis 2's main story line. The disease progresses in stages, as evidenced by containment personnel denying containment access to a healthy man trying to reach his visually unaffected wife on the basis that she was showing signs of being infected with "stage 1" of the virus during the evacuation mission at Central Station. Accurate laboratory testing does exist to verify MV infection. Medical professionals state that Tamoxifen and other antiviral drugs were of limited effect in treating MV. While treatment with antivirals did slow the disease process, the process inevitably resumed. Being an engineered and likely dynamically reprogrammable nano-virus, treatment for such an adaptable disease would be largely ineffective in the long term.

Later stage victims can be seen throughout the game in near-comatose states, often with strange organic growths (mycelia; see below) erupting from the lower abdomen and pelvis. In one of his first communications with Alcatraz, Jacob Hargreave asserts that the virus is but a part of a sophisticated organic recycling strategy employed by the Ceph to re-purpose human biomass. Tiny insectoid Ceph drones called "Ticks" can be seen harvesting Manhattan Virus infected tissue from dead or severely infected virus victims throughout the game. The re-purposed tissue is used by the Ceph directly, something which Alcatraz and Nathan Gould both discover when Alcatraz is sent to investigate a downed Ceph ship in search of alien tissue samples, only to find that supplemental tissue from the ship was in fact of human origin. The potential applications of MV-infected biomass are largely unexplored within the main story line. In Crysis Legion, however, it is speculated that the aliens' interest in Earth is on a purely scientific level; that is, they could be looking for unique, surprising proteins that evolved in Earth biota. If this is the case, the transported human tissue could be used as research material.

Whether the Manhattan virus and the nanospore-based bio weapon deployed by the Ceph Spires are essentially the same or not is a matter of conjecture. It is possible that both effects are caused by the same nanite agent and that the near instant fatality of spire exposure to unprotected humans is due to the greatly increased concentration immediately surrounding the spires. It is also possible that the same nanite spore is capable of being programmed to behave in many different ways perhaps even in response to changing conditions. Since the Manhattan Virus appears before any Ceph bioweapon spires were deployed, a second vector must exist for the initial infections prior to the first stages of the Ceph invasion. Little direct information about the Manhattan virus is given during the game and what is known is mostly assembled from small snatches of dialogue and direct observation.

In Crysis Legion, the information available about the MV is slightly increased. It is described as an "Engineered agenetic bioweapon" and a "monogenerational saprophyte". MV infection appears to not be transmissible between humans, as the only people to display symptoms are those who came into direct contact with the viral spores (an instance is described where a little girl remained unaffected despite spending several hours in the presence of her infected mother). It can also not be contracted by most animal species, with the only vulnerable hosts being humans and higher apes. The virus prefers the wet parts of the body, such as the mouth, eyes, and open wounds. The infection usually consists of the spreading of fleshy tumoral "mycelia" throughout the body (starting in the aforementioned areas), which eventually cause death by organ constriction or blockage of the airways. It is revealed that in the middle stages of the infection, the virus also attacks the human brain and "re-wires" in it a compulsive desire for the host to move towards locations controlled by the Ceph (likely to ease the process of extermination). People affected by this "wanderlust" are in a state of deep religious reverie, although their other cognitive functions are not actually impaired (they can talk at length about what they see and feel). It is also commented that, given its lack of contagiousness, as well as the relatively short range of the dispersal spears, the virus might be a sort of "beta" version, undergoing a controlled trial-run in New York in preparation for a worldwide dispersion of the perfected, fully contagious product (which could be what the Central Park tower was meant to do).

Prior to the incident, Prophet had been targeted by CELL Commander Dominic Lockhart as an active biohazard due to having been infected with the Manhattan virus, and also in part due to ethical disagreements regarding the side effects of wearing the Nanosuits (with Prophet describing the wearers as "Dead Men Walking"). Because of this, Alcatraz also faces combat with CELL operatives, who believe that he is Prophet because of his Nanosuit.

Special Forces, led by Prophet, are leading a covert operation to extract Gould as he is the key to curing the virus. This has to be kept a secret from CELL as they are a private company with their own ulterior motives; ie; the commander who wants to take down Prophet when he learns he has contracted the virus and is thus now a biohazard. Obviously they end up targeting you, thinking you are Prophet as you're wearing the nanosuit.

So Sophos found 2 viruses and managed to delete on of them. Then it said it had found more threats and i should scan again and i did but it onyl found that same virus that it couldnt remove. Heres the log:

"IF" you bought these games... my recommendation is to talk to the publishers for support. However my guess, is these games were not actually purchased... these files are modified by software pirates so the DRM checks do not occur... anti-virus companes see them as modified/hacked files, which they are.

A sequel set 3 years after the first game, Crysis 2 takes place in New York City in 2023, which is infected by an unknown virus. The player controls Alcatraz, a U.S. Marine who is found almost dead by Prophet, and given the upgraded Nanosuit 2 before Prophet commits suicide. He is tasked by Prophet to rescue a scientist named Nathan Gould. At first, Alcatraz has to face Crynet's CELL agents, a mercenary force who is hired by the U.S. Department of Defense to police the chaotic Manhattan, still thinking that Alcatraz is Prophet who is infected by the virus. After discovering Ceph capsules and Catalyst, the Ceph take over as the main antagonists for the rest of the game. Alcatraz and Gould team up with Tara Strickland, an undercover CIA lieutenant, and Jacob Hargreave, the original creator of the nanosuit. Alcatraz eventually enters the Ceph core spire and wipes out all the Ceph in New York. Now facing death again, he meets a memory pattern of Prophet, whose DNA is merged into Alcatraz's. The game closes with Alcatraz being contacted by Karl Rasch, a nanosuit scientist, and vowing to continue the war against the Ceph.

Three years pass between the ending of "Crysis" and the beginning of "Crysis 2." In that time, the Ceph have been raising their forces. Their operations are no longer limited to the Lingshan Islands, as groups of Ceph hidden underground all around the world begin to awaken. Few places have been hit as hard as New York City. A deadly disease dubbed the Manhattan Virus has been unleashed on the New York population. The virus infects human beings and begins to destroy their cells, ultimately liquefying their bodies.

"Crysis 2" takes the first game's environmental motifs and flips them on their head. While the first game took place primarily in the jungle, the sequel is set in the concrete jungle of New York City. The original game opens with Nanosuit-powered soldiers diving onto an island from a plane, whereas the sequel begins with regular Marines coming to the Big Apple via a submarine in the Hudson River. During the game's opening cutscene, the player character is introduced as Alcatraz. His team of Marines are led to believe they're being sent to New York to aid with a humanitarian crisis caused by a naturally occurring virus.

As Alcatraz searches New York City for Dr. Gould, he faces not only the Ceph but also C.E.L.L. agents who believe he's Prophet, infected and on the run from the authorities. When he finally meets Alcatraz, Dr. Gould explains that the cellular structure of his Nanosuit could potentially contain the cure for the Manhattan virus. However, in order to do the proper testing, Gould says he needs access to the lab of Jacob Hargreave, CEO of Crynet, the company that invented the Nanosuit.

"Crysis 2" ends its plot more definitively than "Crysis" did, but still opens the door for future installments. The government once again plans to launch a nuclear strike against the Ceph, regardless of the fact that there are still innocent people left alive in Manhattan. A spiral Ceph structure emerges from the ground in Central Park and gives Alcatraz an opportunity to stop the Ceph his own way. He climbs the spire and uses Hargreave's Nanosuit upgrade to alter the structure and the Manhattan virus into a powerful weapon that destroys all the Ceph in the city.
