Hi all,
I am going to helping out a retired meteorologist of 40 years to get one of his GOES dishes realigned to point at GOES 16. The last time it was used was for GOES12!  It has an operational feed horn -   Quorum 1691 L feed horn. With rg11 going down to Quorum SDC-1691 CWP down converter. The down converter puits out at 137.5 Mhz. the dish is a little over 10' in diameter! And he has 6 dishes in his yard now.

1. Can goestools use a setting of 137.5 as the input frequency? (other than the normal 1694.1 MHz)
2. Should I remove the feed horn and just make a cantenna?

thoughts?

Carl, based on the conversion used previously for GOES-12, I would expect the output for GOES-16 to be on 140.6 MHz. This assumes the LO is 1553.5 MHz, which would have produced the 137.5 output for an input of 1691 used by GOES-12. But other users who have one can confirm.

I use a Quorum down converter. Oddly, I had to set Goestools to around 124.5 mhz, way below the expected 137.5mhz so you may have to hunt around a bit to find the actual output frequency . I used SDR Console to find the actual frequency. Works great though.

Thanks for the input, this will come in handy when the time comes to do the setup!

Hey Carl,

Have you worked with the C-Band feed of NOAAPORT before? I tried and was able to get the feed working but the C/N was on the edge because my dish wasnt wide enough. If you are interested I would share my notes and I also have a few receivers
