Dear friends,

I have just completed an article about images, in which I'd like to use an image composed by some frames from "Histoire(s)".

It took some effort, but I finally could contact someone at Gaumont to ask for an authorization to use the frames.

Does anybody there have any experience in obtaining this kind of authorization from them?

Best from Brazil

Dear Sergio,

I've cleared/paid for image rights from Gaumont in the past (e.g. for use in the For Ever Godard book). However for my book on Histoire(s), which contains numerous colour images from the series, my American publisher agreed that it was OK to use these under the 'fair use' doctrine.

Hope that helps.

All the best,
Michael

p.s.: hope you'll share your article when it appears!

I have noticed (in a book published in 2019) that images come with the qualifier "screen shot."  Is this another example of fair use?  No need to request permission anymore?
