Dear Friends,
Radhe Radhe
When Sri Ramanujamji was here, he was mentioning how we should hear Bhagavatham from Rasikas. Rasikas are the ones who study and hear bhagavatham just for Krishna. They don’t care if studying and hearing Bhagavatham will do anartha nivruthi or give moksha or help attain vairagya or jnana. Hearing and studying bhagavatham is perfect by itself. They do it just for Krishna anubhavam only.
Though they don’t have any motivation – Jyana, Vairgaya and moksha will always be at the door steps of such a great rasika… That’s Krishna krupa..
How do they become a rasika? Only by Guru krupa, as Guru himself is a parama rasika !!!
Here is an beautiful snippet from a lecture by HH Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji.
There was once a pundit who would go from town to town doing pravachan (discourse) of Srimad Bhagavatam.
When he gave his discourses, he would adorn himself with a variety of golden ornaments. He would prominently wear all his medals and awards; he would wear diamond studs in his ear and gem-studded bracelets in his arms; he would wear expensive clothes and richly embroidered shawls.
This pundit had a desire to speak on Srimad Bhagavatam to the king of his land. He felt that if he did, the king would honor him with a prestigious title and shower him with gifts and money. So he went to the king and revealed his desire to speak on Bhagavatam to him.
The king looked at the pundit and said that he had a lot of pending administrative work and royal duties to take care of, so he could not peacefully listen to Bhagavatam at that time. However, the king said that he would provide a place for the pundit to stay, in the palace itself. He requested him to stay there and do Srimad Bhagavatam parayanam (reading of the scriptural text). The king then promised that when he was able to find the time, he would listen to the pundit’s exposition of Bhagavatam.
The pundit too agreed. He stayed in the palace and began to do Srimad Bhagavatam parayanam. When he finished parayanam of the entire Bhagavatam once, he went up to the king and asked if he could now speak on Bhagavatam to him. But the king said that he was still tied up and asked him to do Bhagavatam parayanam once more. So every time the pundit completed parayanam of the entire Bhagavatam, he would go to the king and ask for permission to speak about it. And the king would request him to do parayanam again. This happened again and again, and the cycle went for quite a long time.
After some time, the king noticed that the pundit had not come up to him in a while, and enquired about him.
That is when they found out that as the pundit had been sitting alone and doing parayanam of Srimad Bhagavatam again and again, the highest bhakti (devotion), jnana (Supreme knowledge) and vairagya (discrimination) had dawned in his heart. So, without telling anyone, he had left alone for the forest.
When the king heard about this, he was overjoyed. He immediately gave the responsibility of his kingdom to his son and crowned him king. And then he headed out in all earnestness to the forest in search of the pundit, in order to listen to Srimad Bhagavatam from him!
