Firstoff, I will say that I like playing this game. It looks good and plays well. Those are about the only good things I can say about it. I have been playing Golf Rival off and on for about 8 years. The "off" times are because I get fed up with getting cheated by the game. I've seen reviews by people complaining about the unfair way that players are matched against each other. It isn't overmatched human opponents you're playing against. It is bots. In my experience, there are very few, if any, human opponents. The very real problem with their use of bots is that they use them in matches that can cost you money. I have filed several complaints against them with the FTC and with the BBB. If you feel that you have been cheated and/or defrauded, I encourage you to file complaints, too.
Where in golf can a player gain an advantage by hitting the ball in the rough? Only in this badly conceived game. This is not golf, but an activity in which those who have learned the hacks gleefully tromp the less experienced players. In addition to this insult to golfers, when ever I played off a tie, which was determined by distance only, my shot distance target was always shorter than my opponent's, making it almost impossible to win. The unfairness of it all had me almost throwing my phone. I'm done with this thing!
LIked it at start/ It's a really fun golf game. Then, like lots of people mention, you get paired against people with whom you simply cannot win. They have extraordinary clubs and balls and make extraordinary shots, and unless you spend extraordinary amounts of money, you won't. And suddenly your shots aren't going the saem distance as shots by other people. Sometimes you blow by you opponent, sometimes they blow by you-for the same shot, taken with the same power and ball, with the same club, in the same wind. Neither way is fair.
I know the owners are in it to make money, but they must make a boat load on ads. So why don't they divide players into 2 groups: one that buys equipment and one that simply erns by playing. The purchasers can't paly down into the earn it group, but the earn it gorup could paly up just to see how much easier the game is if you spend money. My guess is doing that will induce some players to spend, which will increae the owner's income.
The worst aspect is the cost of special balls and upgrades, 500 gems for 10 balls essential for the ridiculous tiebreaker shots yet it takes weeks to get a couple hundred gems. Clubs can be upgraded past past stage 12 as the cost is way too high and the card system takes a millennium to get enough cards to upgrade. All the freebies are fun to collect.
Overall, it's a money grabbing game in a money grabbing rich man's world. I don't pay so am eternally stuck in the one step forward, two steps backward stage 13. Eventually I will no doubt give up and delete it
Played for a few months. Had to just let it go. Like most people here, when I had plus 3 or 4 clubs it started putting me up against players with clubs 3 or more higher. Finally without spending any money got my clubs up to 6 an 7 just to find out this game is not policed for cheaters. I kept running into players that are using hacks to win. I have hit quite a few long distance eagles and birdies but I take the time to aim. Seen multiple high level players just click move cursor swing, auto in cup. It's a game that tries to take all for money and lets players do whatever they want. Seen the 300 yard in the cup shot to many times and found the hacks online they are using. I am not gonna go that route, F this game.
This game was okay but now it's a money pit...players are on the final holes nothing else created. Playing field is unfair money spender are above everyone else. Now you can't win unless you spend lots of money...
This game app is only interested in sales , it has a obvious algorithm that decides wich player will win before you even tee off , the placement of ball for windage is very inconsistent at best , if you don't want to spend money I suggest you stay away from this game, the the game has alot of issues to be worked on but has potential if the makers stop being greedy for money
Game play is good but you get super miffed when who you are playing makes 2 crap shots them makes a miracle shot to win the hole, this seems to happen whenever you are close to promotion to the next level, all for money and nothing else
It's really fun. You don't have to spend money though I do recommend buying the challenge pass for a couple of the 'seasons' when you first start playing, it's the fairest priced paid upgrade and speeds up your progress real nice like.
I can't believe I'm doing this again in the same da. GR is impossible to get ahead unless you spend a lot of money. I thought I spent quite a bit, but must be not be to their standards. I'm 67 years old, and I just want to carry at what they have done to this this gentleman's game and how google allow them to do this. Sad....Sad
I loved the game played it for 2 months, but after a month I could see what Was coming....I play 2 shots, sometimes 3, then my opponent holes in from 250 yards, straight in the hole without bouncing! Several clubs will do this when they are upgraded, costs money or takes a very long time if you don't pay! Very frustrating, to say
As a long time player the game has turned into crud. It used to be challenging and skillful to the player. It is now way to obvious that Zynga has turned it into a pay to win game. You do not succeed by skillful playing anymore, it's based on your pockets. Ive quit playing this game. Zynga tries to make changes to the game stating its for the player but it obviously only benefits them. Horrible game now. The greed and obvious scams is what made me quit.
As soon as I gave a honest opinion on the review option (which was basically - if you don't spend money than you are opposed with those that do and it becomes impossible to win) I was opposed constantly with those who have spent hundreds of pounds, dollars, euros etc. It became laughable. So I uninstalled it and got on with relevant things to do. Good luck folks and take care.
Very addictive game, so don't start playing unless you want to spend money. The courses are designed to reward those who spend $$$. I spent only $4.99 in the year i played the game, and you can't win past course 15 unless you pay. Also, NEVER respond to the internal rating gauge negatively. When you do, programs in the game severely handicap you. Too bad...a really fun game until the bots turn against you and you don't want to pay the $$$ suckers that created it.
Started great. Then I progressed to the point where wind, trees, slope, and sand made it impossible to succeed without spending $1,000+ (no exaggeration) to upgrade clubs and balls. Lots of opponents have these upgrades. I don't know if there are that many wealthy people out there or if gr has its own contestants entered. I'm very disappointed in the game now
They are really good at sucking you in but if you don't want to spend $1,000+ (I'm not exaggerateding) don't do it. You get to apoint where the wind and bunkers are set up perfectly to make sure if you don't spend the money to upgrade your clubs, you won't win. Upgrades at that point cost more than you can buy with earned coins
I love this game but only give it 3 stars because I have tried everything I can think of 2 zoom in on my shots, or see my shot from a different perspective, yet I don't know how, while some people do. This gives them a very unfair advantage. Why they can't give all their players this info on their tutorial page, which is quite extensive, is beyond my comprehension.
Golf Rival way overcharges for upgrades that are mostly random of an offering and is overrun by MOD using players (cheats) that get all upgrades of clubs and balls for free and wreck gameplay. Very much a waste of time and any any money.
No matter how much money you spend, this game is computer generated to make you spend more money. This is not a game or competition this is a fraud/scheme to rip you off. If you play it don't spend any money!
Frankly, I was hoping the game would be like the ad run in other games where the ball is hit, skims across a skinny ledge hundreds of feet in the air and, if it makes it, bounces into a hole. Unfortunately, that comes dozens of levels (and hundreds of dollars) later.
Yeah this game is designed to make money but I can assure you that you don't have to. You need to learn the ring system which is a really good system and keep your cups lowPeople are unfairly rating this game 1 star, I enjoy the challenge, I enjoy beating people who outrank me in all respects and if you are seeing people get albies on every shot like some say, then aspire to do the same. You have obviously reached kingdom levels you can't keep up with till you progress your clubs. Remember in the first week or so, lower levels WILL have higher clubbed people until they get up to their respective levels.
I gave an extra star for the unfair ratings from people who think you can just pick up and play rather than learn how to play. I get people use special balls on me and I still beat most of them without special balls. Just because learning the rings gave my short and medium game pin point accuracy 90% of the time!
Absolutely terrible game. The whole thing is a rigged joke. In the Kingdom it seems every opponent makes an albatross in every game. And I mean EVERY game. It's all a scam to get you to spend cash over and over and over. STAY AWAY
I wonder if Golf Rival pays staff to ensure "opponent" wins. Notice how opponents win with lower level clubs at distances that appear questionable. I have been monitoring wind and ground bluff against distances achieved...and something is not on the up and up.
