to Go Button
I love Go Button, but wish that the display did not immediately switch to the next cue name and note as soon as the current cue begins playing.  In some cases I’ve written instructions on the Note that tells the sound person what to listen for to correctly trigger a particular hit - but the Note disappears immediately, even if the cue is quite long, and the sound person can’t see the instructions at that point.

Yes, I could move the instruction to the note of the following cue, but that feels very counter-intuitive, since what needs to happen is before the next cue, not during it.

I would really like to see the current cue name and note remain in the window until the cue has completely finished playing, and then change to the name and note for the following cue.

to Go Button
Hi Joseph --

I totally understand your desire for this. Let me quick explain two things that have gone into the design behaving the way it currently does, then I have a solution for you.
  1. Go Button is designed to be "fire and forget", in which the Notes field shows text relevant to the on-deck cue that is the current playhead cue, e.g. when you should press GO such as line of dialogue or stage action. Once you trigger a cue, the playhead moves ahead so the operator can focus on when the next cue should be triggered.
  2. Go Button can play multiple cues at the same time, so the idea of "the current cue" and which notes to show gets a little bit muddy as soon as you have a second or third cue playing.
But for cases where you do want to keep the playhead on the same cue, this is where Go Actions come in handy. If you're not familiar, they are additional actions you can add to a cue that you trigger by tapping GO while a cue is still playing. See https://gobutton.app/docs/v3/working-with-your-show/editing-cues/#go-actions
  • The playhead remains on a cue that has a Go Action after you trigger the cue. (Think of the playhead "moving" but only to the next Go Action, which is internally still owned by the cue.)
  • And crucially, Go Actions are optional.
So just by adding any Go Action to a cue, the playhead stays on that cue once you trigger it. If you choose an action like "Stop Cue / Go Next" or "Fade Out / Go Next", the action remains useful and tapping GO still lets you jump to the next cue on demand. Since Go Actions are optional, the playhead still automatically advances when the cue runs to its completion if you never trigger the action.

You can batch edit a multiple selection to add a Go Action to multiple cues in your show at once. And if you always want your new cues to have a certain action, you can edit your New Cue Template in the sidebar to include this action.
