I have a finished show in Qlab that I'd rather not rebuild in GoButton if I don't have to. I'd rather export the cues and import them into GoButton. Any way to do that? I don't see any obvious way.

Hi John -

Unfortunately, there is not currently a way for QLab to export cues to Go Button.

We are thinking about ways that QLab and Go Button might someday be able to exchange information. It's good for us to know this would be useful for you!

I figured but thanks for response.

YES! I that would be an EXCELLENT feature to have.
I have a show that has been done previously and finalized in Qlab. It's being remounted and now needs to used in rehearsals, don't want to setup a full Qlab system. However, I could load cues up on someone's iPhone or iPad to use GoButton and would rather not rebuild the entire show if I don't have too.

Please add it in the (near) future.

I agree, that would be an excellent feature to have! I'd love to be able to give the stage managers an ipad with even a dumbed down show file loaded in to go button on an ipad to use in the rehearsal hall.

This is EXACTLY what I'm looking for, and I believe quite a few other people would benefit from this too! I need a mobile QLab station that's easy to tour without carrying a laptop around.
Let me know when this kind of functionality is available!

I had assumed this was the intended functionality - edit in-depth on QLab, then export to iPad.

Hopefully this is available soon.

Hi Mark!

Great to hear this would be useful to you.

Can you describe in more detail how you’d use it?  Naturally, QLab on a Mac has a wider range of functions than Go Button on an iOS device, simply by nature of what iOS currently supports.

For example, in the case of things like a multi-channel audio cue in QLab we would have to translate that to something that iOS can do, or in the case of other kinds of cues, we would have to drop them entirely.

Thus, knowing what you have in mind about how that would work could guide us in understanding the goal you have and ways we might help if the tools were integrated.

Thanks!

Chris

What about the ability to create a GoButton Package from QLab, which could then let you know which cues would would need review? An Export Wizard of sorts which would alert you to issues.

I think others have proved in their comments that this sort of interoperability has its uses, and I would suspect many designs in smaller/fringe situations would not necessarily be using the high-end features of QLab that would prevent export.

I expect many designers "think" in QLab as a familiar environment, but may need to translate that work to a final production situation where an iPhone/iPad would be a solution. Even if that required some dumbing-down or tweaks for the platform, it's certainly better than having to start from scratch.

Hiya Mark,

To clarify, I’m not saying we oppose this idea — just the opposite!

I’m asking about the details of the specific ways you would use it, so we can work on designing it in a way that would meet your goals.

Put another way: there are a number of ways that “export from QLab” could be designed to work, and I’d want to make sure we don’t think about versions of that idea that wouldn’t actually do what you’re hoping to do.

For example, it sounds like your goal is to take a more complex QLab document and perform some kind of translation to an approximation of that design on Go Button, as opposed to having a mode in which QLab constrains you into building a workspace that would work identically on Go Button?

Cheers,
Chris

That would be an excellent feature!
Even if it's just for the 'regular' audio cues to use in rehearsal.

In my case, I would just need the basics: audio, fade, devamp etc
I'm a director and musical director, so sometimes I need to start music while I;m on my feet, working with actors and singers. Having and iPad of phone there would be so much more convenient and 'hands-on'
Also I think it's great as a back up for shows...

And, I aso thought this would be the logical thing to have, using GObutton. I was very disappointed it didn't have an exchange feature. Thought it was the whole point of the app ;-)

So, hoping for this in the near future

Greetz,
Monia
