Anyone else want to see an Apple Watch extension for Go Button?

Figure 53: what’s on the road map?

Thanks,

Anthony.

I realise that what I meant to say was “can we have a remote control app for Go Button that works in Apple Watch”.

I use Go Button on my iPad. But would want my watch via my phone (or direct if possible? Bluetooth?) to control it.

Hi Anthony -

We don't have plans right now to develop a native Apple Watch extension for Go Button, mainly because the built-in "Now Playing" app already works as a remote control for Go Button. "Now Playing" requires watchOS 4.0 or later and can be found in your watch dock, which is accessed by pressing the flat button on the side of your watch.

To enable support for "Now Playing", open the "Configure Remote Control" screen from the Go Button sidebar. Tap on your active remote control profile to edit it. Then scroll to the bottom of the screen, and make sure that the switch next to "Send Now Playing Info" is enabled. Exit the "Configure Remote Control" screen and open a show in Go Button. After your show is loaded, open "Now Playing" on your watch.

(Note that "Now Playing" can connect to more than one audio source. If it does not automatically select your Go Button device, you can tap the red back button in "Now Playing" to select it from the list of sources.)

Whenever Go Button is the frontmost audio app running on your device and a show is open in Show Mode, Go Button will send basic information about the currently selected cue to display on your watch, and it will receive remote control commands from "Now Playing". You can use the "Configure Remote Control" screen to customize the actions that Go Button performs for each of the remote control commands sent by "Now Playing".

I want this to mean that the watch can connect to two different ipods at once, and pressing the controls on Now Playing will affect them both at the same time. Is that what it means, or is that just wishful thinking?

That would be really cool, but "Now Playing" can only connect to one iOS device at a time unfortunately.

It also appears that the Watch needs to be paired to the device that is running Go Button in order for that device to appear as one of the sources. (However, a native watch app would conceivably have that limitation as well.)

But the advantage of a native app would be better control over the interface.  the "Now Playing" only gives you three controls.  What you really want is the scroll wheel to act as "select cue" up and down, "Go" & "Stop". I can't see any use for "volume" that the scroll wheel provides.  You also can't remap it.

Yes - certainly a native interface would be better. In the meantime, "Now Playing" will get you at least some level watch-based remote control.

As always, it's very helpful to us to hear what people would expect to see in a native Go Button watch app. So thank you for this extra info. We are definitely monitoring interest in this, and every bit of information helps!

I have been using Now Playing to run small shows for several years. My personal experience with this has been that the volume control is very useful. Again, this is my personal experience and real world needs, but I have never needed to scroll cues but going forward or backwards to repeat or skip a cue has been necessary and is possible.
