2 Raspberry Pi's talking

Hello,

I am trying to get two Raspberry Pi's to send messages to each other. I'm trying this out first on my laptop, and I've been using the API (a Restful API) and all I get is a web server that doesn't seem to do what I need it to do.

I'm learning about REST, but right now I haven't got the foggiest idea what it is.

I don't want to create a swarm. My immediate goal is merely to get a Raspberry Pi 3 communicating with a Raspberry Pi Zero via the USB cable.

Any help would be appreciated.

I now have my laptop and a raspberry pi zero doing simple message passing via the mqtt Adapter.

My next job is to figure out how to do this from one Pi 3B+ (jasoom.jay) to a Pi Zero W (barsoom.jay) via the USB connection or even straight serial via the GPIO connector.
