Speakers and topics to include:
Dr. Chris Duemler will speak on toxemia / ketosis issues. Dr. Duemler is a large animal veterinarian with Brodhead Veterinary Clinic. Besides treating goats as a vet for many years, Dr. Duemler raises and shows Nubian goats under the Rivan Oak herd name (
http://www.rivenoaknubians.com ). Dr. Duemler will speak on prevention of pregnancy toxemia and ketosis in the pregnant doe and treatment strategies if these conditions do occur.
Jeremy Franseen will speak on raising a successful milking herd. Jeremy runs a commercial dairy goat operation in northern Illinois. In addition to being excellent milkers, Jeremy's goats compete very well in the show ring. We've asked Jeremy to share his management practices with us - how does he raise healthy, productive goats in his commercial environment.
Vicky Tonn will talk about kidding problems and treating sick kids. Vicky has raised several breeds of dairy goats for many years. As part of her job she has visited many dairy goat operations. Between her home herd and the herds she has visited, Vicky has seen most kidding problems and has much experience treating sick goat kids.
