This course is certified by the Xavier Centre of Historical Research, Porvorim and the Camões-CLP, Panjim, together with the support of the Fundação Oriente, Panjim. The course runs from 27 October to 8 December 2025, with classes held every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 6 pm to 8 pm at the Xavier Centre of Historical Research, Porvorim. We have LIMITED SEATS. Please register yourself to reserve your seat. REGISTER HERE Level A1.1 - Beginner Portuguese language course No prior knowledge of Portuguese is required. Instructors Blanche Mendonça, a native speaker of the Portuguese language, was born and educated in Beira, Mozambique, where she pursued her studies up to the pre-college level. In 1979, she moved from the former Portuguese colony to Goa. She graduated from St. Xavier's College, Mapusa, with degrees in Portuguese and Philosophy. Her career then led her to New Delhi, where she worked for the Embassy of Brazil for over 35 years. Now retired, she enjoys sharing her extensive experience with people from different Portuguese-speaking countries with the ‘Amigos da Língua’.* Délio Mendonça was born in Beira, Mozambique. He moved to his ancestral Goa in 1977 and after completing his schooling in Portuguese. He has Master’s degrees in History, Portuguese Literature and Culture (Goa), Church History (Rome) and a PhD in History (Pune). He has also taught Portuguese Literature and Culture at the Goa University. He is the author of the seminal work Conversions and Citizenry: Goa under Portugal, 1510–1610 (2002) and Fonseca (2022). Mendonça previously served as the Director of the Xavier Centre of Historical Research (XCHR) in Goa, and until recently, was the Dean and Professor at the Faculty of History and Cultural Heritage of the Church at the Pontifical Gregorian University, Rome. He is currently is Assistant Director and Program Coordinator for the Arts at the XCHR. *The Amigos da Língua (Friends of the Language) is a curated WhatsApp group for learners of the Portuguese language. The group is currently limited to those enrolled for the Aprender Português (Beginner Portuguese Language Course) at the XCHR.
