Goan tiatr is a unique form of Konkani musical theatre that blends drama, satire, song, and social critique, often performed in a fast-paced, entertaining style. Born in the late 19th century from Goan migration to Bombay, tiatr is distinct for its topical themes, ranging from politics and family life to migration and morality. It is delivered through a mix of scripted play and kantaram (songs) sung between acts. Its immediacy, audience interaction, and deep roots in Goan Catholic culture make it a vibrant and evolving people's theatre unlike any other in India.
