Hey guys.

Any plans to implement GTD roles in Goals To Do?

Thanks for a great product. Keep up the good work.

Dear Rick

There are no such plans so far, but your question is interesting for
future GOALS development.

I am, however, a bit confused with your question, since for me there
can be multiple interpretations of the word "role". Do you mean the
different roles of the same person like for instance: employee,
husband, father, cinema-fan?

So please explain it a bit or possibly provide some links.
Possibly you have some ideas how you would like to see it implemented.

You're correct. There can be many interpretations of the word "role."
In this case, I mean the interpretation in the classic Getting Things
Done sense just as you suggested; employee, husband, father, etc.

Sure. Let's take a classic GTD example. Let's say you have an item in
your Inbox called "Take mini-vacation trips" and you're not really
sure what to do with it. Then let's say you decide to create a "role"
called "Husband." Then you decide that you'd like to take those mini-
vacations with your wife. So you would then move that item from the
Inbox to "Husband" role. That's one possible implementation.

The PC software that I'm using supports roles and I have several items
in various roles. I'll have to figure out a way to make this work with
GOALS since GOALS doesn't currently support roles.

Thanks.

Dear Rick

Thank you for your feedback.

I'm still not sure whether you could use contexts as the roles you
mean. Just name certain contexts like:

ROLE: Husband, ROLE: Employee

and so on, and attach them to actions.

Please tell us what could NOT be done with such an interpretation of
roles in GOALS.

Other way would be using Project Categories as roles.

Possibly, attaching actions to people (contacts), which is supported
in GOALS, would be helpful as well.

Looking forward at your answer.

Based on the way GOALS works, I think it would be possible to create
contexts with role names like you suggested. I like that idea better
than using project categories.

Thanks.
