GUJ ANNUAL SELF-DECLARATION
AND MEMBERSHIP FEE 2023-2024
The Goa Union of Journalists (GUJ) invites
Ordinary members to submit their annual self-declaration and pay an annual GUJ
membership fee of Rs. 200 for 2023-2024.
The annual self-declaration is a compulsory
exercise to be submitted by Ordinary members so that GUJ remains updated on
their current work profile. The self-declaration and annual membership
fee is not applicable to Associate and Honorary members.
The GUJ membership categories, as notified under
Article 5 of the GUJ Constitution, are listed below.
1: ORDINARY MEMBERS: Persons not less than 18
years of age who are qualified under Article 5 and have worked as full-time
journalist for at least a period of one year.
2: ASSOCIATE MEMBERS: Members of the Union who
retire from work after outstanding service to the Union and the profession will
be conferred Associate membership.
3: HONORARY MEMBERS: Persons who have done
outstanding service to the Union or are useful to the Union in its
organisational work. (These persons need not be direct members of the Union.
Even non-journalists can be inducted as Honorary members)
Associate and Honorary members shall have no
membership fees and are not eligible to contest any election. They shall be
eligible to attend annual general body meetings but without voting rights. They
can, however, be nominated as members of the executive committee, but not as
office bearers. Only Ordinary members shall have voting rights and can become
office bearers of the Union.
No member shall lose his/her membership because
of temporary unemployment provided the period of unemployment does not exceed
one year, and he/she does not leave the profession in the meantime to take up
another profession. Members who have left journalism and have taken up another
profession or who have left the state and have remained out for a period of one
year will be permanently suspended from the Union. However, the unique GUJ
membership number will continue to remain in his/her name.
No member shall continue his/her membership in
the Union for more than one year after his/her retirement from service. Such
members will be categorised under Associate members. In the event of a trade
dispute, a member shall retain his/her membership till a decision is reached in
the dispute.
Under Article 26 (DISCIPLINARY ACTION &
DISBANDMENT OF UNITS) of the GUJ Constitution, Ordinary members who fail to
submit their annual membership fee are liable to lose their voting rights and
face suspension of the GUJ membership.
Ordinary members who have failed to pay their
membership fee and self-declaration for three consecutive years will have to
write to the President/ Secretary (secreta...@gmail.com) seeking revocation of a possible
suspension of their GUJ membership.
The annual GUJ membership fee of Rs.200 can be
paid online (net banking/ G-pay), by cheque or cash.

The deadline for submitting
the self-declaration and payment of GUJ annual membership fee is June 20, 2023.
The GUJ annual Self-Declaration will be jointly
monitored by the GUJ Credentials Committee and the GUJ Disciplinary Action
